Ivonne. I do respect volcanoes - I find the geology interesting (although not really my area of science) and fascinating places to visit - I've been to Etna, Stromboli, the caldera at Santorini, Campi Flegrei (Plegraean Fields), also near Naples, and some mud volcanelli in southern Sicily. We've not usually planned to go specifically to see a volcano but just included it as part of a holiday because "it's there" :-) Fortunately, volcanic areas are well monitored so there's often some warning of activity but obviously not always and there are restrictions. Only scientists with breathing equipment can go to the top of Etna because of the sulphur emissions and only organised groups can go up Stromboli and with a time limit on the trip - only suitable for fit German hikers, but the nighttime boat trip round the back shows the period pyrotechnics to good effect against a background of the Milky Way.
