The bunch of clowns that call themselves Just Stop Oil Protesters

They are demanding an end to new fossil fuel projects in the UK, and are calling on London Pride to issue a statement condemning new oil, gas and coal. They are also calling on London Pride to cease accepting sponsorship money from high polluting industries and stop allowing the inclusion of floats from these organisations in the parade. At around 1:25pm, nine LGBTQ+ Just Stop Oil supporters blocked the Pride parade in front of the Coca-Cola float- the world’s worst plastic polluter, accused of numerous human rights abuses. Some supporters blocked the float whilst two others sprayed pink and black paint over the road.

Given that JSO have also protested at the Chelsea Flower Show (with damage to displays) and at Glyndebourne Opera (that seemed to be quite civilised with no arrests) I suppose they could argue they don't discriminate; they'll protest against anyone, anywhere? Could be a mistake at Pride as I think many LGBTQ+ organisations are already disassociating themselves from BP, etc?

Given their lack of diversity with regards to other class and race it's a reasonable question to ask.

Just a reminder that gay people only got universal equality in the UK in 2020 which is just over three years ago.

It wasn't that long ago that bombs were going off in Soho with the gay community being targeted.We all probably know someone who had a much more difficult life due purely to their sexuality. Just like racism, or other forms of discrimination such as antisemitism we must not take the current situation for granted.Just stop oil may have a point about sponsorship etc. It would seem appropriate that such a protest would have been better represented by the gay members of just stop oil. It would absolutely be clear then that this was not an attack on the gay community. Is there a reason why this was not the case?

As others have pointed out, Pride isn't any longer a protest movement. But even if it were, you'd have missed the point again, because what JSO were protesting about was Pride's excessive reliance on fossil fuel donors.

I was referring specifically to Pride and, as I said before, the clue is in the name. It's not a protest, it's a celebration. Homosexuality has been legal for many years and gay people are a protected minority. The battleground there now is over trans rights (the "T" in LBGT...) and I'm not sure where that will end up. Anti-fossil fuel demonstrators seem to want to target anything that gets attention - sport, art, commuting - I don't see why you expect them to give Pride a free pass.There are still anti gays around I admit - there are indeed bigots around  of every hue - especially on social media where they don't have to stand up for their bigotry in person.

Pride has long since ceased being a protest. It is a celebration. The clue is in the name. As such, it has also become very corporate.
