Vine road recreation ground

Front page, this used to be paddling pool, swings and slide,roundabout etc and cafe. Now a roller skates, skate boards and scooters. Sounds like trouble. So Richmond Council have got money for this. I wonder if the big houses each side of the railway crossing will be happy.

There is still cricket played there, well there was last year.The old tea shop started opening again selling a a cut down selection of beverages.I'm not sure if the paddling pool has water this year.Like Putney there isn't much for kids over 7. Some ropes and a climbing board.I think the locals are more concerned about crime which has rocketed.

If you look at the properties in Vine Rd and Woodlands, it's usually quiet. Also expensive properties, shouldn't think they would be happy  about too much noise. Used to have cricket on one of the greens over the railway.

Yes Beverly Brook is mostly hidden from the Lennox Estate until Barn Green and then disappearing until Barn Elms.With Vine Park being an open bit of land, I wonder if it could have been made more visible without access.The emergency bit is just flannel. As you mentioned it is not very accessible, more so since Hammersmith Bridge being closed. The last thing you want is vehicles on the crossing! There is a community planting section for vegetables - so perhaps they could hold out and be self sustained until help arrives - by boat I assume:)

With so many sports now only being available through private clubs and so many homes without gardens it is very important to have other space for children to play and let off steam.

Just Googled Vine Road Rec, looks like they do a lot for children. Changed a lot from when I was there.

I haven't seen the design, but one way goes over the brook to railway side and White Hart Lane. You can only walk that way. The other side is between two railway crossings. Bit confused about keeping people safe during an emergency, they will need a lot of staff. The brook ran behind where I lived in Treen Ave, past the Halfway House Pub (the stag). They had the caretakers cottage and the cafe, can't remember there being much parking space.

Beverley Brook also runs alongside - not mentioned in the article. It doesn't look like it will be used as a feature.It looks like a nice design.I think I miss the witch's hat more than the teas shop :)

Why is it gonna be rowdy? Probably a lot better than playing on railway lines and getting burnt.

Well I new the daughters of the caretaker years ago. There used to be a donkey and bowling. It was lovely the paddling pool. Then when we were about 12 would meet the boys over there, be home before it gets dark. Also a very bad incident, where the 2 railways run each side of the park, a young lad climbed up onto the railway with a metal bar, all of a sudden he was screaming, we ran for the caretaker, who got an ambulance. He got burnt or something. Such a shame if it is turned into something rowdy.

Somewhat more than a skate park and also designed by Friends of the Common, looks like a good plan
