That looked very much like an older schoolboy to me rather than a man. 15 or 16 I'd estimate.

Don't think this children attacking, it is men coming over Hammersmith Bridge to Barnes side. The video I saw was a man pushing a young 12 yr old and snatching his bag. The Police have said they are criminals coming over the Bridge.

Schools used to have visits from the police to advise parents and children about the dangers of showing off new and expensive clothing and gadgets. There was a precursor to the phone - though we never had one - some sort of messager. We want to know our children have arrived safely at school etc and not to find out they haven't until they don't return hours and hours later. Do schools have systems now that send a message to parents when children aren't there for registration now I wonder?

Your son had a phone 25 years ago? How old was he? Ok, not impossible but …

Going back 25 years, mugging and theft from kids by kids was as prevalent, it's not new and my son was advised not to make himself a target ie brandishing his phone, jewellry etc. It seemed to work for him, or maybe he was lucky.

Interesting that the Castelnau area seems to have seen a rise in this sort of crime. The lack of passing traffic due to the Hammersmith Bridge closure may have made it easier for criminals. The problem with employing private security firms is that much of the robberies are children on children and they wouldn't be able to do much about that. We found with our children growing up that the best way to protect them from street robbery was to only give them very out of date phones.
