Ed, obviously there's an issue with goods and services across the EU/UK borders. This was a point specifically about individuals travelling, although if one's trying to fly to Paris or Amsterdam for the day to attend a business meeting there might be a knock on effect if one misses the meeting 'cause you get stuck in a two hour queue at immigration. I've had to queue for one and two hours to clear US immigration when on both business and pleasure trips but that's less important as normally it's unusual to do a round to North America in less than 3-4 days so a couple of hours is less of an overhead. And, yes, befere you start, it's better to do meetings by conference calls or to travel by train when viable but sometimes time is of the essence in business. Also, from some research I did in the early 90s if you're running a project or programme of several months or years: yes, do the weekly/monthly progress reviews by video conference but do the first meeting in person and possibly personal meet ups every quarter or half year. That's the way you really engage, learn body language and have those off record conversations over a coffee, beer, meal, etc; and sometimes it's good to visit, for example, when doing due diligence on a supplier where it's useful to look and poke around at things that aren't mentioned in the documentation or ISO9001/27001, etc accreditation :-)
