Well, according to the stories Johnson bought the oysters himself as ne thought his servant might find that task demeaning,  so one might assume Johnson also attended to Hodge's food? Surely, though, it's an honour to buy and feed any cat? After all, they are gods:-)

Michael, I’ve only just found out about this other museum and will have to pay a visit next time I’m in Lichfield. Going off topic, I was very surprised at how much Lichfield seemed on the up.  Lovely shops and restaurants in contrast to my home town, Sutton Coldfield, where all the shops seemed to be closing down. Really shocked by it, tbh.

We have recently visited Lichfield, the birthplace of Samuel Johnson, and would recommend a visit to this lovely small city and the house where he was born, which is now a museum.
