ULEZ going to court.

Ed Gregory’s our speaker at our ULEZ  meeting at St.Mary’s last month has successfully got a high court judge to make an order. So, it would not be incorrect to say that motorists are charged twice, through the VED and now the ULEZ and LEZ zones...

"Course it would also allow the scrapping of the road licence ( the old road tax)"I don't think so, Andy, as the VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) is an emission tax and quite separate from any charge on roads as such, since roads are paid for out of general taxation (the old road tax was abolished in 1937).

Bloody hell where did that come from ? Personally wouldnt mind charging per mile if the money was invested in keeping roads fit for purpose with no pot holes.ot  Course it would also allow the scrapping of the road licence ( the old road tax)

Anything to answer back Richard, stupid, pedestrians walk on the pavement, unless a stupid bike is on the pavement and you have to step in the road. Your in the fantasy world Richard, you think you don't have to pay for anything, otherwise you would be annoyed. You don't produce emissions, well I wouldn't want to be behind you on your bike after you have had a curry.

I'm sure road charging per mile will come. We already have the congestion charge in London, tolls on some bridges; in the US on toll roads you have devices attached to windscreens that allow automated accounting for road use. Rather than fine people for non payment of congestion charge  or ULEZ entry why not adopt the Florida system? If you don't have a windscreen device an ANPR system triggers a bill plus an admin fee of several dollars (can't remember how much but I think less than $10) rather than issuing a large fine of $100 magnitude.

To be clear, road pricing is about controlling/alleviating congestion. Pedestrians and bicycles do not impose congestion, so would be exempt from road pricing.

They came across as misguided morons, whether left or right but mainly far gone.It is indeed a feature of our supposedly open society that people can gather like this and witter aimlessly, as it appears they did.There was space in the video given to one idiot who didn't appreciate that a car sold outside of London, where various pollutants are highly concentrated, could still be operated in say, Keswick, without doing anyone much harm. Which would, in fact, be an excellent idea. It's been around since at least the Smeed report of the 1960s (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smeed_Report), but the technology didn't really exist to implement it properly then.Now, however, it's a different matter, and it could be implemented. The reason it's such a good idea? Road space is a scarce resource, and the application of variable pricing could help to even out its use by setting the price at a high level when usage is greatest but much lower when it's least. What's not to like? - Except when you imagine some vast conspiracy like the wackier end of the lunatic spectrum of protesters there on Saturday.

Brown car guy covered the event, I watched a bit on the link below. He is not a bad interviewer perhaps they should have let him interview Elon Musk next time (just kidding)!No idea about Stan. It looked like a very peaceful protest. Obviously some people will be upset that others have a different point of view and get will get offensive.They certainly didn't look far right although I suspect some may participate in village fetes and extreme scone baking. There are more people than the government and they have a right to protest. Loads of shops shutting in Wandsworth Bridge rd, due to roads being shut off. Why should  people be stopped from being able to do their jobs. All you do is promote bikes.
