Barbara, I did repost this on the correct thread but as you've decided to respond here I suppose I'd better continue. It was an observation; yes, traffic is bad in Putney for a number of reasons. The congestion and difficulty finding parking are two of the reasons why I prefer not to drive, aside from the fact I can read, work or study on the train. Obviously a Freedom Pass and Senior Railcard also means public transport is a lot cheaper; the "carrot" to use public transport?

Michael, your wrong thread, have you not thought as you haven't been driving so you keep telling us all.  Traffic lights top of High St, Traffic lights Norroy Rd, Traffic Lights outside the Exchange, Traffic Lights Lacy Rd, Traffic Lights outside the old Nationwide, Traffic Lights by the White Lion Pub.  How can any vehicle get anywhere fast. We had traffic in our road again, until 3 weeks ago when I rang TFL and told them of the build up in the morning in our road again. Only one vehicle was being let out at a time, so hopefully that's why no traffic as they changed the rotation again, to let out a few more vehicles.

An observation: in the time it took me to walk from about level with the entrance/exit by Sainsbury's supermarket in Werter Road, go into the NatWest Bank, draw cash from an ATM then go back onto Werter Road a top of the range sporty Mercedes had only moved from about the same position next to Sainsbury's to just getting into second in line to turn into PHS! As I've said before, driving is often lost time and I also got some exercise:-)

And do they forget that Starmer was a loyal member of Corbyn's Shadow Cabinet from October 2016?"He looks set to reclaim all the Red Wall seats and now Scotland is back in play for Labour. If you combine this with a renewed willingness of Lib Dems to vote tactically, which could lead to Tory wipe outs in the south, it could mean there will be over 400 Labour MPs."We'll have to see what the media decide to do, won't we?

I think a large part of the 16% lead in the polls is down to the way he has defenestrated Corbyn. He looks set to reclaim all the Red Wall seats and now Scotland is back in play for Labour. If you combine this with a renewed willingness of Lib Dems to vote tactically, which could lead to Tory wipe outs in the south, it could mean there will be over 400 Labour MPs.On the other hand he once made a slightly ambiguous statement which arguably contradicted something he said three years earlier.

It's not just the Labour Party in the Commons that contains wildly disparate groups: the Conservatives range from the One Nation wing, with people like Caroline Nokes or Amber Rudd (others, like our last MP, Justine Greening, have been driven out) has little in common with extremists like Christopher Chope or Edward Leigh. What keeps these parties together is the absurd OMOV voting system for the Commons, which result in what are essentially fixed coalitions.And if either of the two largest parties were to split into their component parts, the result at the next general election would be annihilation, so it won't happen - unless and until we adopt a more sensible, proportional method of electing MPs.

It's long been on my to-do list to ask Private Eye.Sorry I derailed your thread.Sir Keir Starmer isn't very charismatic but as I've just been reminded  - charismatic is how Trump or Johnson or Truss might be described and that hasn't been at all helpful to us all.
