Yes, a scary piece of equipment, although I think there's far worse around now :-( - and certainly the closest I've been to one, even if it was decommissioned! The later ones carried nuclear warheads and were intended to also take out strategic nuclear missile, although the feasibility of that doesn't seem to have been proven. Well, that was a comment made during the tour of the site, plus the fact no one seemed to have assessed the effect on a civilian population below of a nuclear anti aircraft missile exploding next to an aircraft carrying a nuclear bomb or a missile with a nuclear warhead - or perhaps that's still classified (••) - although I suspect the bomb or warhead would have been fragmented by the AA missile's explosion rather than a secondary chain reaction occuring but I'm not sure one can't be certain of that…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Nike
