Scams

Just a warning that there are account takeover scams for mobile phones going on at the moment. Hand one yesterday; a nice gentleman telling me that O2 were going to give me a 50% reduction on my monthly charges and could I give him the verification code I'd just received, but not to give it to anyone else! I pointed out I had no way of verifying who he was ... and heard him say several times excuse me, sir as I went silent and then hung up ...Anyway, NEVER give verification codes over the phone to any caller irrespective of whether they'd for phone or bank accounts, or if you've requested one or not!

I had one on the house phone saying so much had been taken out of my account. I never pressed 1 or 2, I just held on and never hung up. It sounded like they had hung up but they hadn't really. I eventually hung up, left it a while, went to ring the hospital it didn't do a dialing tone, but somebody spoke like they had been on the phone all the time, so I cut them off quick.

The only vaguely sensible thing that I have heard about Putin is that he does not use mobile phones nor the internet. Problem with that is that he has to rely on his trusted honchos to tell him stuff.
