Lorraine Kelly

Don't know if it's my hearing, but I catch a couple of words Lorraine says, but she speaks so fast, don't hear anything else.  Always turn over channel. Is it me or does anybody else have the same problem.

Our hearing does also change as we age - there are several online hearing tests that you can do (or persuade others to do when you get tired of raising your voice - which makes you sound angry).  Sometimes you can have difficulty differentiating between different voices in a crowd and sometimes it is just particular sounds. If you do them online you can also do them without others knowing!  Here's one:https://rnid.org.uk/information-and-support/take-online-hearing-check/Be wary of companies that want to sell you anything immediately.  You should be able to have a choice.  My MIL had hearing aids that cost thousands but never wore them.  My FIL had one NHS one which made a tremendous difference to us all!

Glaswegian and fast speaking.  I used to ask a Glaswegian friend to slow down and translate what he was saying.  With practice he got easier to understand and I rather like the accent I too find it musical.

I have relations in Chester, but my name is Bahbara, hello luv. They seem to prolong the words, I understand them clearly. Just unable to understand Lorraine a few words then I am lost.

Well, Glasgow's accent has been difficult at times.  I remember an English journalist interviewing a Glaswegian live for a TV programme. It was very amusing because the journalist could not understand a word of the answer, so the transmission was cut!!  This happened in the early 80s.But, in our case, I suppose a group of Glaswegian men, talking in bookies' lingo with a few wee drams in them......By the way, Clifford, I love the Scottish accent, but understand that of the East coast better....

I worked in Glasgow for a period and had no trouble being understood or understanding the locals - they all possessed a wonderful accent, musical too, wonderful.

Interesting, I know a number of people from Glasgow, and have worked there and in Edinburgh and Aberdeen and never had a problem, except with one colleague who had an accent that was a cross between Scouse and Glaswegian …I have to admit I've not heard Ms Kelly recently. What I have noticed is that if a group of people are talking together in a regional accent they sometimes seem to slip into a local patois that is difficult to follow (I've noticed that with some friends in Wigan).

Ha ha ha!!!  This reminds me to a trip my husband and I took on the overnight sleeper to Glasgow and then on to Oban.It was a late train and there was a big group of men.  My husband challenged me to understand the Scottish accent.  So, while sipping a G&T in the bar, I was listening carefully but lost interest very quickly.  I could not understand a word they were saying.  Neither could my husband, by way.It turned out it was a group of Scottish bookies going back home after Derby day!!!  :-) :-) :-)

Do you know any Glaswegians?  The accent can take a bit of getting used to if you don't.
