Penalty for driving in Fulham

Just came home to a PCN from H&F council for driving along Harwood Terrace which I now learn is part of a scheme to prevent 'ratruns' through part of Fulham.Has anyone else received one of these and been successful in having the penalty overturned?

In the summer and now, the bikes don't just cycle to the left they come from the right as well. We had a club do last night, also a zebra crossing. It's a 2 way cycle lane.

Very much the same as leaving the car park to turn right and crossing on coming traffic. Simply treat the cycle lane as if it were a car lane and give way to oncoming vehicles/ bikes.its basic driving skills nothing to do with bikes or car preferences. If the bike lane wasnt there you would still give way (Wouldnt you) to oncoming cycles and cars.

When you come out of the small car park and pull onto the road you actually cut across the cycle lane to actually get onto the road. When you get further along the road the cyclist are actually on the pavement where pedestrians walk.

Cyclists as a more vulnerable road user need a lot of protection from those motorists who think they have some divine right to overtake wherever they are and whether it is safe to or not as many of those don't give them enough space.  (In the Highway Code it is 1.5m for motor vehicles at speeds of up to 30mph and more space at higher speeds ie allow the width of a car.)  Cyclists are now told to ride further away from the kerb/verge instead of close to it.Sometimes you just have to drive slowly and not overtake.https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/using-the-road-overtaking.html#:~:text=leave%20at%20least%201.5%20metres,least%202%20metres%20of%20space

Just wondering if anybody else has driven down the Portsmouth Rd, from Kingston to Surbiton. The cycle lane is so wide it's really dangerous. This side of the river Thames, by Ravens Ait.

I'd love to see it applied in various places in Putney, including the area I live.Driving to places with in the H&M Clean Air Neighbourhood just takes a tiny bit of planning. All you have to do is look at the website https://www.lbhf.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/clean-air-neighbourhoods/south-fulham-clean-air-neighbourhood-project and it's pretty easy to see how it works, and how to get to/from a particular destination.It doesn't prevent anyone from getting anywhere as every road is available by some route.Of course it is going to inconvenience a small minority of journeys, but that's always going to happen with any scheme that is put in.The whole point of it is to discourage/prevent rat-running, i.e. people who have no intention of stopping anywhere within the zone and just want to drive through it as an alternative to driving round it.I'm sure the people who live within the zone love it because they benefit from quieter roads and because they are permitted to drive around their local area if they have a local residents permit.

John, some on Putney Forum couldn't careless, if they don't have relations or need to go to Fulham.  It's all just a big joke to them. People have been stopped from visiting relations  for 2 yrs because of Covid.  Now the Government will do their best to keep isolating people everywhere.

The 6 month trial period finishes on June 1 although it is likely to continue for a further period. The snag/snare with many of these restriction signs seems to be that they are placed some distance down each residential road where there is often no alternative practical route to take, other than an awkward three point turn.  If they really want to stop traffic using these streets and stay on the main perimeter roads, it would be simpler to put a barrier across them and have done, instead of some convoluted us and them, permit and cameras scheme that just confuses people - but it does make money!

And also, this argument about "not seeing the signs" is a frankly poor one: if you miss a sign setting a speed limit, for example, or defining a bus lane or indicating a zebra crossing, should you also be spared the resulting consequences? I think not; of course it's annoying to be caught in this way, but in the final analysis, anyone in control of a machine weighing two tons or more must needs be aware at all times.

I missed the signs otherwise I wouldn't have driven down there, Richard. Frankly it is a scam scheme as the objective achieved is £££ in H&F coffers. If it wasn't such a pain to use Putney Bridge to get home, again due to H&F's Hammersmith Bridge being closed for years, I wouldn't have tried to use the back streets of Fulham to reach Wandsworth Bridge!

Classic case of entrapment.  Should see Magnet, if it's still there, shut down within the year.  Good idea to stop the 4x4s ploughing through the side roads but this will kill the trades and rocket the cost of building work....Good luck with transporting the plaster board by bus...

I received one and appealed and they agreed to cancel it, but it was on a Sunday morning on a totally empty Imperial Road and quite at the beginning of this scam scheme.

The sign wasn't clear and he never went past the sign and did a U-turn. He thought the camera was facing the wrong way that is why he got a ticket. He told them he then went to Parsons Green into Wandsworth Bridge Rd. Then into Carnworth Rd, to get to the Builders Merchants Hitchcock. It's all time consuming, watching where you are going, no wonder people have accidents. He had already been to Wicks in Wimbledon, he thought he couldn't go over Wandsworth Bridge, so came all the way back to Putney and went over Putney Bridge. That's when he made the mistake. Lucille I hope you get it sorted.

Yes Lucille, my other half had a ticket going to go into Hurlingham rd, but thought he turned round in time, when he realized. He wrote a letter awaiting an answer.
