Curious how Fleur's meeting went last night?

Was wondering if it was all about cycling and walking, or if anyone stood up for those who can't do either and need to, from time to time, use their car?

Perhaps they could start with making sure the current rules and laws are obeyed.Charlwood Road every morning has cars double parked, idling, reversing, doing u-turns. A danger to pedestrians, cyclists and a nuisance to residents.Not a ticket to any of them. Not a traffic warden in sight.Clearly WBC has given them a free pass, what other explanation is there?WBC should hand out parking permits or tickets.Have they checked the stats on speeding buses on 20mph roads in their area of responsibility? If so perhaps they can publish them. But wait that would be something they could do now but may be it's politically awkward?

It is difficult to say precisely who is supported in Putney with regard to their mobility or the lack of. Perhaps more disabled parking spaces would help. Don't also forget Putney's Russian roulette Copenhagen crossings which are hazardous for the unwary, and particularly so for those with mobility problems.

I went along to Fleur's meeting last night. It was about cycling in Putney and the plans to make a connected network of cycle routes through the Thamesfield & East Putney area. Their aim is to make it safe enough that a child in Year 6 (10/11 years old) would be able to cycle to school which seems like a good thing. I didn't see anything in the plans about stopping people from using their cars, just making safe routes so those who want to cycle can do so. There were obviously a lot of cyclists in the audience given the topic but many of them also said they have cars (myself included) and would just like to be able to use their bikes for more journeys. A few people asked the councillors thoughts about neighbouring borough schemes, like H&F making side roads for residents only, or Lambeth reclaiming 25% of parking spaces for uses others than private cars. They don't have any plans to copy these schemes any time soon it seems. Overall the main thrust is that absolutely no-one wants more traffic so anything they can do to help people who want to cycle is good for everyone, no matter what your chosen method of transport is.

Agree, I don't walk to well. I get fed up with bikes, bikes, bikes.
