I thought I only went into Sainsbury's last Friday, they now only have 3 checkouts, the rest are self service, which makes it a bit difficult if you have rather a lot of shopping. Easier at the large Sainsbury's Richmond to park when doing a larger shop.

David. Doubt there's correlation or causality, similar problems with ATMs; perhaps banking in sterling is a problem?

"unless one has dry skin which seems to effect the sensitivity of the touch screens. Tasty vegan katsu curry noodles in there!"Mentioning dried skin does not actually add to the attraction of katsu curry, especially vegan. Just a tip.

I guess the current labour shortage means that more self serve terminals of all types will be installed to maintain service levels and keep costs down. I see the new ITSU has these, quite efficient unless one has dry skin which seems to effect the sensitivity of the touch screens. Tasty vegan katsu curry noodles in there!

The lady who is always on the till, said she had to stand by the self checkout helping people and never sat down for 4 hrs, today. Then she was put back n the till.

Caroline, if you have a problem with self checkout you can ask for the assistant to scan your shopping.

I seem to remember they only had about two tills open anyway. The new self checkout section is designed for trolleys.A sign of the times but I think they have two security guards now.The Sainsbury’s self scan app is excellent unlike the Waitrose one.

We go to the tills as a matter of principle. If you do not use them you will lose them! All this reminds me to Anna Reid's monologue in Years and Years: "It is all your fault!"We had quite a bit of shopping the other day and my husband asked one of the staff for a till to be opened - and it was!

On Sunday when I went to shop there were no tills open. I had a lot of shopping but did get plenty of help at the self-checkout. Much prefer the tills though.

Martine, I asked the lady who is always on the till, won't put her name, but she said there haven't been any redundancies. But I can see it coming, she did say, if you have problems on the self check out there is somebody to help. I do prefer a till myself.
