"Do you really think that because Sue Gray will be working for the Labour party, it means they will win the next general election?"It was a kind of joke. Their election win looks very likely now. I was encouraged to play around with the idea of the Labour Party led by an ex-DPP, now with a new Chief of Staff with a singular reputation, a secretive nature and a hint of the spook about her, who has been "the real power in the Cabinet Office". I do not know whether she is a socialist, but that doesn't seem at all necessary in Starmer's party. Quite the reverse, in fact. "I can think of a thousand reasons why the Tory will lose it. Can you not?"I can. Far too many reasons. It almost looks suspiciously like overkill. Rather like 2019 all over again. When Labour was smashed (smashed itself?) for a decade, if not a generation. And yet not so at all, as it turns out. It's all most confusing.
