Philippa,If aliens invaded tomorrow they would think we have developed some advanced form of the hobby horse. Bikes without wheels locked up and that's just the bikes which have not been complete stolen.I use three motorcycle locks to thread through three bikes but even allowing for unlocking & locking the chains I'm still at the mercy of a D-lock & cable when I lock it up at my destination.Electric bicycles are even more of a target.Personal bicycles for local transport are just not sustainable in a high crime environment. Have you read the information on the ULEZ on the Mayor's website or are you just ranting against something that is a change.We have been needing to reduce the air pollution in London for a long time.  Only no political party wants to be unpopular so it has just increased and meanwhile we have a Govt which doesn't believe unlike other Govts that it is a good idea to provide cheap clean public transport to encourage people out of their cars.Cycles can be electric and don't only have to have two wheels.Cars can be hired and shared and there are taxis.  You can also campaign for the return of hospital transport and Demand Response Transport.  We also need all our tube stations and stations to be properly accessible - it is shameful that they still aren't.  Join up and support Fleur Anderson MP in her campaign for accessible stations.

No, Lynne, you are very wrong.Having pragmatic approaches does not mean being flippant!  Or are you of the opinion that all motorvehicles should be banned, including buses, taxis, emergency services, delivery lorries to shops as well as couriers for online shopping? They pollute too, you know?  Oh, by the way, ban all planes, airports, helicopters and helipads too.Perhaps we could reinstate the horse as a means of travel, they can have special parks where they could live and coaching inns built all over London.  After all, people do need to move about.  Some are more able than others, so let them circulate and confine all infirm and disabled people to their homes.

Most of that makes sense - the cameras stop people passing between the orange and green sections to stop rat running - but I'm not clear why there's a camera shown on the map at the north end of Edenhurst Road?

It's not that you can't drive down the roads Matt, you just get fined if you are not an H&F resident. Well that has always happened.  Many of the roads that are one way now used to be two way and there are also other roads with bollards at one end.  Change happens.Have you looked at this about ULEZ:https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptionsbecause everybody seems to complain about not being allowed to do this, that and the other on hearsay without looking at the actual information.Different areas across the UK are trying different methods to reduce car use and reduce carbon emissions and increase walking and cycling.  Why not campaign for better alternatives instead of just campaigning against any changes?  In some countries you get free hospital transport for instance.  That has pretty much disappeared here.https://www.cleanairfund.org/geography/united-kingdom/#:~:text=Air%20pollution%20in%20the%20UK&text=Court%20cases%20(in%20the%20UK's,plans%20to%20address%20the%20problem.The UK Govt has been taken to the High Court and lost several times over its lack of effort and conviction in doing anything about the problem.  They have been afraid of of being unpopular for doing what is right - notice how Boris Johnson announced the original ULEZ and then left Mayoral office.They also lobbied when we were in the EU to try and get the figures of dangerous pollution lowered so that our figures here did not look so awful.

Andy, they may be but the Government are thieves. My other half received a fine this morning wanted to go to the Builders Merchants. Went to go into Hurlingham Rd, realized he couldn't, so turned round still got a ticket.  Had to turn round go to Parsons Green, into Wandsworth Bridge road, then into Carnworth,just to get to the Builders Merchants. You don't get a lot of traffic in Hurlingham Rd, so why have they cut it off.

The use of resources is shocking.We now have the odd situation where the Labour run council is getting the police to remove badly parked hire bikes and trying to make political gain out of it.Some are left blocking pavements which is a concern not only for the blind, but also wheel chair and people with prams and pedestrians in general. So absolutely a real concern.However unlike Richmond, WBC have not provided any off street parking for hire bikes. There also plenty of safe spaces on the pavement that could be locked out with a bit of thought and paint.TFL unlike their California equivalent do not provide dockless bikes.How is this joined up thinking?With bike theft almost guaranteed hire bikes provide currently an alternative.How Labour WBC policy and indeed the Mayor's policy, supports ULEZ alternative transport is beyond me.Perhaps they don't care?

Why? I used to go to Richmond park on a Sunday to take my Yorkie, wish she was still with us. Was a while back even saw Martin Clunes up there, who couldn't help himself had to say what a lovely little doggie. What about Golf I'm sure the men or women don't walk all the way to the park. There are so many reasons people need a car for, perhaps just because certain people on here don't use their cars, they still want them, but don't want other people to use theirs.

What has this got to do with the ULEZ nothing. Covid came from China. You keep on about cars, what about your food delivery I bet a lot of you have cars and still get your food delivered by van. What about parcel delivery. Builders have to get materials from Screwfix or Wicks, how do they do your job otherwise. People use there cars to take their dogs to the park Richmond etc. Visit elderly relations, go to the hospital if they can't walk properly. It goes on and on. You can't do it on your bike or walk.

I find it difficult to follow the notion that, if you are in favour, you are on the left or on the right.  Poppycock!!Common sense must prevail and the best solution must be fought.  It may be unsavoury at times, but if it helps to improve matters, then a bitter pill must be swallowed.My bone of contention with the ULEZ and extended ULEZ, if that cars, like it or not, are needed at times.  People with disabilities, for example, need a car to be able to go from A to B.  I see it all the time at the RHACC, where people in wheelchairs are brought in by people's carriers.Doctors need cars to move from A to B; even if some are using bicycles instead, when they need to be somewhere in a hurry, they do use their cars when need be.Pollution must be brought down.  On our road, side road not main road, there are 1000 buses a day and most are diesel ones.  So, any ideas on how to reduce traffic on London without pointing fingures unfairly?  The chances your plumber, who you might need in a hurry, will have a 4 wheeled vehicle.Being pragmatic is of paramount importance!!!

Thailand brought in Biometric checks in 2019. There are too many people in outer London who do not want this to go a head. People will only put up with so much, people visiting the elderly, people taking people to hospital, teachers, nurses, people visiting their elderly relatives. There are only so many restrictions people will put up with. I know people in our road are parking the other side of the Upper Richmond Rd. There are only so much people will take. Ealing are telling people to toot their horn against Khan.  You will end up with riots. Not all breathing difficulties are fumes, they can be mold in the properties, which the Council should be dealing with and are not. Funny how the Government want people to give up on vehicles,but are not doing anything to improve their properties.

Sue, wouldn't disagree with you about wood burners. In practice one needs photo ID to carry out anything to do with financial and  legal services, and to access certain buildings. (I've been ID checked going into the Gherkin and Shard, and I wouldn't use any data centre that hadn't verified my ID!) So one's driving licence is now essen a de facto ID card. It's those marginalised people who don't use those services, etc who will likely find themselves unable to vote when they turn up at the polling booths.One wonders about the practicalities of photographing and fingerprinting tourists at Dover, St Pancras and at a Greek island airport? Similar processes in the US means it can take up to two hours to clear similar procedures at Miami airport. Still, perhaps that's why the EES and ETIAS keep get pushed back!Better stop, as way off topic! I do think ULEZ was a genuine attempt to fix pollution in London but perhaps not all elements thought through?

Uncharted and unchecked freedom of movement is indeed worrying and imo the introduction of ID cards and fingerprinting is long overdue and very welcome.  Pollution is also very worrying and I hope stinking wood burners are banned very soon.

If one's worried about freedom of movement then perhaps one should be concerned about Brexit and the need from c2024 to be fingerprinted entering the EU Schengen zone, or the introduction of compulsory ID in the UK because everyone is going to need that to exercise the democratic right to vote? ULEZ might be rushed and have deficiencies but there's a good reason behind it: pollution is killing people, whereas there's little valid justification for Brexit or voter ID?

I watched the clip. It seemed that he was rowing back at first but then doubled down and made it more general.A bad day for democracy.People should be able to challenge policy and policy should be robust enough to be defended on its merits without resorting to inappropriate smearing.
