Sorry Cab Rank by Sainsbury's Werter Rd.

Sorry to bring this up again but I was talking to the Security Guards in Sainsbury's today, they said a lot of people a complaining  about the Big Issue seller, they ask for nappies etc for their children then when you buy them for them they want the receipt so they can get the money back on them.  Or somebody might follow you and take your phone etc. Just letting you know what I heard.

Ed, not sure most appear to have red jackets must be supplied by Big Issue. But it seems what I read on Google, the sellers are self employed. There was an awful lot about Big Issue. I might have something wrong. I just don't like being shouted at,forcing you to purchase.

Perhaps a silly question, but do people need a licence to sell things on the street?

Geoffrey, very true, bit awkward as I use the Werter Rd Sainsbury's all the time as I live opposite. But it does get on my nerves when she keeps asking or shouts across the road as well.

I don't know the Big Issue seller you are referring to, but you have to be very careful in any dealings with anyone you don't really know. Never give them your address or feel pushed into giving them extra money. There are stories in the press of people being asked to buy nappies for people collecting money and finding they have their purses or bags stolen by accomplices of the person asking, who follow them when they enter the supermarket. Giving small amounts is a nice thing to do, but take care not to be persuaded to give more. Why would they really want to be your friend, when you think about it?

Also the big issue is on the Readly app so many people wouldn't have to buy it to read.

Yes David, a bit off if they don't have the money to buy them. It does say clearly in google, but I do get things wrong. So if they buy them and can't sell them their stuck. There is a lot in google about Big Issue.

Read on the Big Issue site if you google, the sellers actually have to buy the big issues themselves. When they sell them, they receive about half the price back. I think this is a bit off. If Big Issue gave them so many books each to sell each day, then the sellers could then get paid for the amount they sell. It does seem to appear a lot of them are homeless, or found some form of accommodation. They can claim some form of support allowance from the Government. but it also said a lot off the sellers are foreign.

There are a lot of people suffering with the cost of living right now and with such a cold spell energy is a big worry.  It isn't just the elderly who are finding it hard.  Be careful.

Many years ago I had a Big Issue seller turn down my money because he wanted a larger amount for the magazine which was what some people gave apparently. It was a reasonably polite rejection, I suppose. But I have never bought one since.
