HSBC Putney to close

BBC News reports that Putney HSBC branch will close next August. One of 114 UK branches to shut down because "footfall" is too small.

I'm sure there's a number of costs that will be cut by reducing branches if they're no longer generating any revenue. There was a pub in Chelsea that closed a while ago and became a Santander branch; the Santander branch has now closed; will it now become another pub or restaurant …

Yes, I've heard Royal Mail advertisements for picking up parcels and bring a label - but what I haven't heard them offer is to weigh your parcel for you and work out the postage so that you get the whole service rather than just a part of it.

I would have thought that property sales would be a factor for banks, although we may have already reached the restaurant/bar climax community.

I would guess that closure of bank and post office branches is a way of either reducing staff cost by a direct axing of staff numbers or to redirect staff into positions generating more revenue to support staff costs?

I was told by a post person that RM managers are deliberately letting letters pile up while focusing on delivering parcels. That sounds like a deliberate breach of their licence. So perhaps late delivery of letters is a deliberate management policy? :-(

After Putney August closure, nearest HSBC will be 593 Fulham Road, close to North End Road south. 2+ miles.

"as banks will not be here for that long"Neither shall I, but I would like there to be actual banks still there while I am. I already have to use a smartphone to open the door into my storage unit building. Which has finally given me the impetus to slowly but surely weed it until it is empty. I should be grateful for that, I suppose.

I often wonder if the "footfall" is too small.We went into NatWest not long ago and they were encouraging us to use online and mobile banking "as banks will not be here for that long....." I find the thought really frightening, as there is nothing better than a face-to-face chat and sort problems out, or, in the past, get mortgages.....
