Russian missiles hit a farm in Poland near the border with Ukraine

In past crises there have been anyway.

Even if it was a Russian missile fired from a Russian unit Nato would probably ramp up the warnings but accept the collateral damage as tragic but not a reason to retaliate. Obviously if it happens again and again, the gloves will come off.

Plus the S.300 series is old. The expenditure of them currently by both sides is likely to be high. Stocks have been reconditioned*. That just sounds more likely to result in failures and accidents. (I write as a Googling amateur, of course).*Apparently, Slovakia gave Ukraine its 1990 S.300 battery, which had been refurbished in 2015, and was now near the end of its useful shelf-life.

There's an investigation underway by NATO countries to ascertain the facts although Biden has said it seems unlikely based on it's trajectory that it came from Russia. It doesn't really matter to those dead who's missile it was, all missiles are potentially lethal; I think I agree with Sunak on this, if Russia wasn't launching missiles at Ukrainian civilian targets then Ukraine wouldn't be launching surface to air missiles so ultimately Russia, namely Putin, is responsible for the deaths.

Newsnight seemed to suggest it could possibly be a Ukrainian anti aircraft missile gone astray.Whatever it is you are right it's a worrying development.
