relax Richard, I wasnt complaining about travelling at 17mph, I was pointing out the irony of holding up 6 or 7 cyclists who all wanted to break the speed limit but were unable to do so as a car (me) was obeying the speed limit...find a sense of humour mate

Sorry to have to say this, Adam, but that's one of the daftest posts I've seen in a while. "Stuck behind a cyclist doing 17/18mph all the way", you would have been held up for no more than half a minute (the difference between 17mph and 20mph over the approximately 1 mile length of Priory Lane): is your time really so valuable that 30 seconds must be saved?

It is not safe for him - the cyclist, travelling at in excess of 50 mph (untaxed, uninsured, no MOT, no number plates, probably carrying diptheria too) will very quickly run him down and kill him - this is invariably the result of a collison between a cycle and a person - unlike those involving cars which simply leave the victim with a warm glow.

Staggering! Must be the only cyclist not breaking the speed limit as most can quite easily do, by loads, dangerously. should have number plates, MOT, insurance. Rant, rant, rant.

today in Priory lane I was stuck behind a cyclist doing 17/18mph all the way, I couldnt safely overtake without briefly exceeding the speed limit so numerous cyclists gathered on my bumper as they couldnt overtake either (or undertake)...hilarious :)

Lots of schools have school streets nowadays so that it is safer for children to get to and leave the area.

There is an interesting photo of the junction of Clarence Lane & Priory Lane that includes a sign warning about speeding motorists. I shall try and find the link but from memory it was approximately 100 years ago.

Nah, they’d see the data and filter it out because of factors like weight and pressure in the cables.Anyway, I was more referring to the Electric scooters and eBikes. We won’t get anywhere with the regular cyclists, solely due to the fact they do no harm, right.Also, this speed limit isn’t the worse thing, since there’s 2 schools down there, worth keeping that in mind.

If the people rushing along Priory Lane to get to QMH looked at a road map first, they could save themselves a lot of time and thus not have to drive so fast, because no way is Priory Lane on any sensible route to the hospital.It connects the Upper Richmond Rd to Richmond Park.

"Tbh I think the 20mph limit should be mandatory on all residential roads but in my opinion it's totally ridiculous for the roads being targeted especially Priory Lane which is an important route for many to get to QMH."Just because Priory Lane is close to the hospital, that doesn't mean that it is OK to travel at lethal speed. QMH only has a minor injuries unit, doesn't it? Surely you will still need to get taken to the main A&E at St George's?

20mph also makes it easier for those turning into and out of roads to do so with less of a hazard.  Remember we are also when driving supposed to allow pedestrians to cross side roads before we turn down as per the new highway code.  This might stop those who drive (or cycle) to slow down when turning.  The way some people whizz round corners you would think they had eyes on stalks.  They don't and they are dangerous.I understand that it is hard work (though not impossible) for cyclists under their own pedal power to reach 20mph.  However there are e-bikes which don't go so fast but some other bikes which have been altered and can go faster so beware.  The fastest ones are supposed to be registered with plates just like motorbikes.

there's a big yellow camera that faces away from the park so drivers heading towards the park appear to face no penalty. I use Priory Lane regularly, doing 20mph is no hardship.

It’s a pretty good guess that every road that has a set of cables on the surface is being considered for speed cameras. I asked the work crew about it on Priory lane and they lied about what the purpose the data collection was used for.But oh well, I hope that no one on 2 wheels breaks the speed limit.

Yes, this was announced by WBC last week, or the one before. I would love to have one of those cameras on our road (20mph road) where 60 cars were doing 25mph+ in the period of one hour....The cameras on Priory Lane and Wimbledon Park Road have been up and running for nearly 2 weeks.
