I tend to share your cynicism, Maxine. I think one side effect of globalisation is that multinationals have recognised the benefits - and necessity? - of diversification at all levels of organisations? After all, if you're a US or European company outsourcing one's IT or manufacturing to an Indian, Chinese, Philippines, Vietnamese, etc company that's implicit, isn't it, because they're performing that function more efficiently than one's own organisation is? Whether that attitude has filtered down to all grass roots Tory party members or Red Wall voters I couldn't say. Will it help a UK/Indian trade agreement; I suppose it might help smooth negotiations but won't it come down to the benefits to both parties?
