Battersea Power Station

We have just got back from Battersea Power Station which opened today. It’s wonderful! Thank you to everyone at Wandsworth Council, and anyone else, who saved this great 20th century building.

Yes but all i can do is frown at the temple of consumerism really - my XR paymasters won't allow anything else ;)It's not that I hated it, just didnt think it seem very different to any other Westfield once you were inside.

I think they allow strawberries in Matt.But leave your glue at home after all it's a dead power station the power station  is dead. ( With apologies to the Pythons)

@Matt.  We visited Batteresea and the bar allows people to view the control room without buying anything or reserving a table.  You just have to ask.

Well you don’t have to spend any money.  Getting there and back and walking round BPS meant I did all my steps for the day.  Really enjoyed my visit.

Yes both control rooms are still there. One is reserved for private events only and the other one has been turned into a bar which requires you to book a table.Like I said, designed to get every penny out of you!

We think it is magnificent, a London icon.  When it was a working power station, the public couldn’t go inside, so all you saw was the exterior and this is still there in all its glory for the public to enjoy as before. We think the control room(s) are still there.

I went for a visit a couple of weeks ago. It's basically just a Westfield with four chimneys, hardly anything of the original building left and every inch designed as a way to part you from your money.ho hum.

I agree with Matthew Parris today in The Times: ”I don’t think the creators of the awe-inspiring space that is the just-opened Battersea Power Station complex in South London have got their retail offer quite right”. We visited again yesterday and it was very busy, however we thought the cafes couldn’t cope with the number of people.  As Matthew Parris said there are a lot of luxury shops “good for gawping at”, but I would have liked to see Fat Face, Monsoon, White Stuff.  The Zara store is just lovely, really nice. Matthew Parris wants street food stalls, but I would have liked to see restaurants, as it would be a great place for a celebration meal, Pizza Express would be good too. Marks & Spencer food hall opens next month, so I hear. Anyway I hope BPS is a mega success.  It has a USP, it is THE Battersea Power Station.

Sorry to bump this back up, but I thought the new Battersea Power Station shops will be a rival to Westfield and Kingston.  I read that BPS will be getting a Marks & Spencer food hall.  If this is the case, I would choose to shop there rather than Clapham Junction, Kingston, or Wimbledon which is where I go when I need M&S food.
