Kwarteng For The Chop?

Speculation is rising that KK will be sacked today. Truss will be holding a news conference this afternoon and Kwarteng will not be present despite returning early from America. Now how can they get rid of Truss?🤔BBB!!

Australia still require good Putney people (like myself) or focus on hearing and understanding each other, and engage in dissagreements with each other, and compromise will follow easily. OR just go down the pub and have a beer

Matt,Some of the UK issues go back decades that have simly been ignored:A few examples: House prices are to high and need to fall.We need to wean people off cheap short term credit that then turns into longerm expensive credit.Energy taxation is aggressive.

If they had any sense they would refuse to stand and let the Tories own their own mess. Otherwise all we will hear in 4 years is the Tories telling us how Labour trashed the economy.

I'm not sure how a GE will resolve anything.What policies do people want?What changes do people want to see?Truss is right to go for growth, how she has gone about it and the details may be wrong but if we get a government of either colour moulded out from the last decade's thinking then we are all doomed.Many of the UK's issues go back decades: housing, low wages, policing, transport, energy, NHS, trade, manufacturing, personal debt, student debt.The list goes on. Until the country comes to terms with that just changing governments without addressing the issue will not help.

Yes, Hunt as chancellor is a bitter pill to swallow.  Based on past experience, the NHS has no future with him as chancellor - he did enough damage when he was health secretary (yes, in lower case).The conservatives entered into a period of incredible dishonesty with lack of integrity when Boris took over (under the mastermind of the ERG?).  Boris may have the charisma, but so much damage was caused during his premiership that I do not think many want him back.And, as Martine says, the conservatives are not too keen to win the next election (even if they utter the opposite) because of the mess the economy is in - and the worse state it will be by the time of the next GE.  But I agree, we need a GE now, not 2025.

Sue, I suppose it is down to what you believe about the state of the economy.  I have read that the Conservatives don’t want to win the next general election because the economy is so bad.

The country needs a GE now because everything is in such a mess.  However the Conservatives have to swallow their collective pride and get Boris back as PM because without him the Party has zero chance of success.  In. My. Opinion.

This sacking seems very unfair to me because the disastrous economic plan was cooked up between them without any debate with anybody the Cabinet.  Poor old Kwarteng has been used as Truss' expendable stooge.  From the second highest job in Government to the back benches at one fell swoop! Who will she pick on next?
