I agree with you Michael, the fourth plinth is for temporary works, some of the works displayed there were great fun.The fourth plinth is not a place I would consider appropriate for a statue of the Queen. I think a venue of her own is called for.

Actually i didn't personally think much of the Queen on the 4th plinth  like Michael I quite like 'quirky especially the cockeral that reminded me of Spurs..Don't really have much idea where she'd best go Possibly a trooping the colour statue down Whitehall?  Any other, relatively serious, ideas? Wonder how Khan will fare in his defence for his treatment against Cressida Dick?

I quite like the current idea of temporary works on the 4th plinth so I'd prefer to stick with that. (The ice cream with the fly abd drone on it appeals to my sense of humour, and like of surrealism, but for those who don't like it I believe it's being replaced soon.) Some pics of the 4th plinth art, I don't have a complete set.https://www.flickr.com/gp/m-j-i/6Tb6A93rYULike them or not, I think they make a good contrast setting the staid history of Nelson against modern, multicultural UK and the development from swinging sixties in  London? Would one really want Nelson towering over a statue of ERII? Wouldn't a venue of her own that she's been associated with be more appropriate where she's the primary focus for those that think a statue's important?

It would. You can argue it either way. There should be a statue of her maj in a prominent place. In front of Epsom racecourse perhaps. Or Trafalgar Square. Or anywhere prominent in Central London - it's a big place. Whatever. The 4th plinth has been a useful podium for the contemporary arts (for people that like that sort of thing). Redevelop around Buck House and give her the same status as Victoria & Albert, she deserves it.

Ha ha, Michael!  I also thought the 4th plinth, which has been waiting for a permanent holder of the position, is suitable for  Queen Elizabeth II. Lots of people to view it there instead of hidden away somewhere in a park, for example.

It is not solely his decision. There is a commission of special advisers to do that job. The Mayor of London (the office, not Mr. Khan himself) owns Trafalgar Square, hence this falls under Khan's authority, he being the current elected Mayor.Some would favour a system whereby random busybodies on social media get to choose what goes on the plinth from time to time, but I find the current system more transparent.

Because everybody seems to say if you do not like Labour you are Conservative ....  and vice versa.I may not like Khan but I can tell you one thing for sure, Truss and her Chancellor are horrific!

Why should it be his decision anyway? The Queen was head of state for the U.K. not just London so nothing to do with him, he needs to butt out.  Arrogant little git sticks his big nose into everything, he's so far up himself.  Probably after a Knighthood ... 🙄

I do not know what the quick u-turn by Khan is all about.  Personally, I do not think a statue of the Queen on the 4th plinth is appropriate because they are all on a "temporary" basis.While I know you dislike Khan enormously, which is fine, I really think the offensive baton must be taken by Liz Truss and co for the latest economic developments.I suppose that lot is happy that the pound has performed slightly better than the Argentine peso and the Turkish lira....  Wow!!!
