Redevelopment of former RSPCA Hospital

In case anyone wants to comment; this is application no. 2022/3398 and the description reads: “ Proposal Redevelopment and erection of seven two-storey (plus basement and roof level) houses (1 x 5-bed and 6 x4 bed) with associated landscaping including removal of two trees and proposed replacement trees; two on-street parking spaces, on site cycle parking and refuse storage. “

Exactly. The site should have been bought up by the council for housing but that would not have appealed to the neighbours, i suspect.

The Putney Society's comment will follow as soon as I get feedback from panel members. The application is quite new, but we did have a preview from the developers some time ago.We have tried to find out about the clinic next door, but with no useful response. Given the shape of the site combining the two probably wouldn't have made much difference to the outcome.

Adam, we think the developers are trying to do their best for this awkward site.  It would have been even better if the clinic site next door had been available.  There are rumours, but personally I can’t see anything happening for years.  The carpark there is nearly always empty or half empty, I don’t understand why some of it couldn’t have been sold off.  I think it’s to do with the covenant on the site.

the development looks quite good, much better than the current ugly buildings. I am pleased they have family houses and not big blocks of flats.Is the clinic not due to close too? it would be good to see the continuation of the development on the clinic grounds

I am inclined to agree with you. Doubt these large houses will be ‘affordable’. A real pity that the building could not have been taken over by another animal charity or a vet.

Interesting. I was told by someone who'd been talking to someone else who knows Kwarteng that "he's very bright intellectually but crazy". I don't know if that's true but it would suggest a risk taker ...

We will be supporting the demolition of the animal hospital and the building of 7 houses on the site.  However we feel some things need to be gone into in greater detail, and so we are studying the plans closely.

Commenting purely as someone who was totally opposed, I hope the redevelopment is a total nightmare for the residents who campaigned for the hospital's closure.
