Putney - A very good local shop

A lovely weekend as always in Putney.A spare hour on Sunday morning. I like Sunday shopping as it's free parking. Yes I need my car as I have three kids and we carry alot of bags etc. Also it means I don't stop at the pub as I'm driving rather than walking.Shopping list . Shoes for daughter. Present for a baby and my new goddaughter. Some sports accessories for the boys.Ben and Lola - first stop in Putney Exchange. Excellent choice and lovely style. Always a discount sales rack in store as well. Doesn't need to be expensive. Bought exactly what I needed and present went down very well.Clark's - One of Britain's greatest shoe retailers. They are well located on the High Street a ground and basement sales area. Got the school shoes I needed , great service, well run shop, pay a little more but good quality shoes.Sportsdirect - back of Putney Exchange. 2 footballs for 9 quid. Required for my boys as they keep hitting them into orbit.I would've gone to Sporting Feet on Lacy Road if I needed sports shoes. They are one of the best around and we are lucky to have them as well.Pet Shop - There is one on the High Street , yes I bought some treats for the dog.Last weekend I needed a book for my dad. I went to Waterstones. In the Exchange. They have a lot of books to choose from in a good environment. I needed some helium balloons. I went to The Works and I then got a card from Card Factory. They were opposite one another.I could've gone to Wilko, my favorite shop. You can get anything in Wilkos. I could've got my wife a present from Oliver Bonas. I did that a few weeks back. Some lovely ladies clothing in there as well. New large sized store.I didn't get a gift from Farrago or Huttons. I should've done.On my way home I fancied some fruit, so I went into the new fruit and veg shop on LRR. Only been open a couple of weeks but looks a very good addition. Last Friday , I needed some nutritional advice, I went into Revital on High Street. I got a personal service and bought some products to sort my back pains out.The message is. There is plenty out there, just use it and don't moan. There is also a TK Maxx and H&M they're massive fashion retailers. Alot of people love them. Not everyone but we are lucky to have them.Nick

Top marks to Nick for pointing out the positives of Putney. Putney may not be perfect but it's got a lot going for it: great transport links, lots of green spaces nearby, the Thames, several shops that are still open when people have been working late ... and if Putney hasn't got what you need it's part of a big city, London, that probably does and, thanks to those transport links, can be easily reached :-)

Barbara are you having a bad day? every positive post the was on here you have grumped on. I understand the streets are currently dirty and yes, I'd like a few more clothing shops again but Nick was trying to be positive.

Actually I mentioned it to my wife and she said she had been in there and struggled to communicate, must just depend on the staff working that day i guess.

I've been in there a few times and they've always spoken near perfect English.Perhaps you need to shout a bit slower and louder, plus wave your arms around a bit?otherwise try shouting "Tu pata de cerdo está en mi calle!!!"

Nick, the guy in the shop when I told him about the pigs leg didn't understand, except when I poked my head in the door I nearly got my eye poked out, as they were sticking up in the air right by the door, so they couldn't say it wasn't theirs.

Barbara, If the pigs leg is still there I will pick it up. Did it look edible. I love Pigs but I also love Pork.The former Robert Dyas and Putney Bridge Road shops are vacant because planning gets rejected for anything that feasible for developers.Get down to the Lower Richmond Road Barbara. There are some lovely cafes and shops. I will treat you to some bubble, bacon and eggs in the Wharf Cafe?

Shame they have to go past a mucky High Street to get to all the places you mention. The White Lion is a disgrace which could be made into tidy homes. Putney Bridge Road on the right hand side has all shut down. R.Dyas has been left 8 yrs with out another shop taking over, as the same M & S. Delivery bikers swerving in every direction and parking anywhere. I'm sure other residents living near the High Street have plenty of complaints. The food shop by the side of the Spotted Horse,had thrown in a bag in the road I live a pigs leg with the black foot ready for the rubbish collection, made me feel sick. I poked my head in the door to tell one of the assistants the next day it was round the corner on the floor, he looked at me blank and didn't understand a word I had said. One of the R.Dyas staff was standing out the back of the shop and went Yuk. Somebody needs to do something.

Well said Nick - let's hear it more for the people making Putney the wonderful place it truly is - Putney is blessed with good communications links, public parks aplenty, a riverside walk, Wetlands nearby, the most famous river rowing race in the world and more besides.

I have recently used the key-cutter & cobbler opposite the post office, friendly & fast and only £5 for a duplicate key. He has been there for many years, with our support he can be there for many more.

We had Phase Eight. Monsoon. Benetton. Jigsaw. Many others but if people don't shop in them they close down!

Used to love Needle Woman, Chic Boutique, Richards, Worth, Ravel. Are women not meant to wear clothes.

Clarks Shoes are boring, H & M not very good quality. T K MAXX you need 3 hrs to sift through everything.  T K MAXX ok for cake and biscuits. If you go down their every other day it's really boring. No ordinary clothes for women, it needs a good shake up, not a coffee shop on every corner or ice cream parlour for the rich and famous.

And I've found Robert Dyas very useful. Putney still has a cinema, and lots of cafes and pubs to suit a variety of tastes and meet friends.

and... if you need to send a parcel the Mailboxes etc are always excellent
