Putney BID are bankrupting  businesses they claim to  represent according to their own newsletternew

BID newsletter to their members includes threat of enforcement by LBW, no less, if they can't keep up the extortionate levy payments

I don't know much about the working of Putney BID other than they have had some interesting initiatives over the years so broadly speaking they appear to be a force for good.However, a friend of mine who is a small business owner in another part of London is not a fan. She says she voted against the introduction of a business improvement district and gets no discount on the levy despite being in a secondary location. The decision making process tends to be dominated by larger chains who bring in most of the levy as they have salaried managers who have the time to go to lengthy planning and budgeting meetings unlike hard pressed independent business owners who are already working extremely long hours just to stay in business.I would hope the Putney BID is just issuing enforcement notices against shops that have already closed to try and get something from the liquidation process rather than harassing local retailers who have done well to survive over the last few years and are heading into an even more challenging economic environment.

The figures quoted suggest a successful organisation in terms of supporting local business yet it is unclear how Positively Putney works financially and particularly what the benefits to residents are. Both matters require clarifying.

i'm not defending them because i have no real clue how they work, but a majority of businesses seemed to have voted recently for them to carry on, so they must be doing something right?
