Agreed, Matt, the Royal Mail workers have every right to strike and it seems that's the only way they have to improve pay and conditions. However, there is a long-term likely commercial downside to this: many companies wanting parcels delivered will likely swap to alternative service such as DPD, DHL, etc. I remember during the 1988 postal strike it became boom time for fax machine sales in the UK; I've noticed recently that legal documents (company corporate action notifications, tribunal documents, etc) are now being transferred using email and other web services (although they may be doubled up with "hard copies" at present); this strike will likely accelerate that process, I believe the NHS which seems to rely on snail mail for hospital appointments will be looking at electronic alternatives, and many doctor and vaccination appointments already seem to use SMS and/or email.
