Putney Society public meeting - RNLI on the Thames, 3 October, 7.30pm
Did you know there are 4 lifeboat stations along the Thames? The Putney Society is hosting a meeting on 3 October, 7.30pm, Community Church, Werter Rd, SW15 2LL, (opposite Sainsbury's), as well as live streaming (contact registration@putneysociety.org.uk at least 24 hours beforehand to receive the link).Chiswick is one of the newest RNLI lifeboat stations, and one of 4 operating on the Thames. Chiswick and Tower Bridge stations are some of the busiest in the UK - the former has averaged 220 incidents annually over the last 20 years. Wayne Bellamy, the Station Manager at Chiswick, will be telling us more about the history and work of his lifeboat station, how the crews are trained for river work, and how the pandemic has had an impact on their work over the last two and a half years. He will also discuss what we, the public, can do to enjoy the river safely. It promises to be a very interesting talk! All welcome. A small donation from non Putney Society members is always welcome.Refreshments will be served. Disabled access via lift.
