Warning for drivers : latest scam

A resident was driving down Disraeli Rd, stopped at the lights, and was approached by a man in a suit, saying he was a police officer, and she had been going over the 20mph limit. She said she hadn't. He said she had, and would she pull over in Norroy Road so he could take her details and collect a £65 on the spot fine. This would avoid points on her licence. She asked for ID, and he said it was in the car behind her. She said she had no money on her, and wouldn't be pulling over. She drove home, but was concerned that he may have been following her. I don't know if she saw him get in the vehicle behind her. It's too easy to be caught off guard, and I can imagine some folk pulling over, and handing over cash. DO NOT DO THIS! The police have been informed and are looking into the matter. The police will not stop you and ask you for cash. At least, not in this country.

Thanks for posting the latest scams, Victoria. I must admit I'm getting irritated by the number of people knocking at the door wanting to do jobs or collecting for charity. (Ok. I know times are hard but …) I just tell people I don't do business on the doorstep, full stop! That's on the basis I have no way of verifying their identity.The result is I normally answer the door with a scowl on my face, which is unfortunate if it's the postman or a neighbour!

Thank you Victoria for putting this on here, my friend was also worried as she drove off away from the man. So contacted the Police when she got home.

I know. This one was a new one for me. But I hear that there are two very convincing men in high viz jackets who were in West Putney, saying they were there to inspect drains, for a mere £100. A couple of people fell for their patter, so it's worth reminding older neighbours to be on their guard. Say a polite no to people knocking on the door to inspect gutters, rooves, paving, etc, unless you called them in yourself. There are so many jobs available at the moment in Wandsworth, but it seems, for some, scamming is preferable.

It is getting worse and worse!The scams appear to be endless!  So many horrible people, it is horrible!
