100% agree.  Macron is a proper and intelligent politician.

In the excitement to be PM she seems to have forgotten she's still Foreign Secretary. Further proof we have a dysfunctional government. Great response from Macron. One can disagree with his policies but agree he's a proper, intelligent, politician.

Sue, I would be incredibly interested to know why you think Macron - and France for that matter - is not a friend.I do agree with Richard that it is beyond shocking and unacceptable for a Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (at the moment) to be so flippant.

Sorry, Sue, but this was utterly juvenile from Truss, showing a level of diplomatic incompetence astonishing in a senior minister. The French are our political, diplomatic, cultural, economic and military allies, and particularly with the need to maintain European unity in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine, this was unbelievably crass - and all to toady to the jingoistic little Englanders of the Tory membership.

I agree Richard, her comments were appalling.I do like Macron's response though:  "Macron said the UK remained “a friendly nation” and strong ally for France “regardless of its leaders, and sometimes in spite of its leaders and whatever little mistakes they may make in a speech from a soapbox”."
