non payment of energy bills

A movement has been advising people to not pay energy bills, which in current circumstances is very appealing.  But be very careful  This group is under the auspices of Extinction Rebellion    Puts a different light on situation

You should continue paying your lower rate energy bill but do not stop paying. Personally I would cancel DD and pay monthly at the bank. They will not cut your power. The people have to stand together on this one.

This does raise the question of if a million households or more were in the position where they couldn't pay their energy bills - possibly a realistic scenario if bills increased to £4000+ a year for a year or two - would the energy companies (and consumer assisance groups such as CAB) have the processes and resources to cater for that? I doubt I they'd be able to fit all the necessary prepayment meters needed. The government has to come up with a plan to resolve this - I'm not sure how viable the Labour party plan is but at least it's a start: Johnson has nothing (he no longer cares, he's on holiday partying again), Truss doesn't seem to have anything workable (she'll let her Chancellor deal with it because she hasn't got any ideas?), Sunak has gone part way there - is he playing poker and keeping his hand close to his chest (perhaps it doesn't matter,he doesn't care if he's going to lose?).

A Facebook friend of mine pointed out that a result of non payment might be that participants in such a scheme might be forced into pre-payment meters until any outstanding balances are cleared. Not sure how viable or realistic that is but …

The fact that I was there doesn't mean 'Enough is Enough' is organised by XR.

erm where did you get that information? I'm not aware of any link between the two. XR campaigns on the climate emergency in case you hadnt noticed.
