Paul. The fact is "going green" is a transition, things aren't going to be rectified overnight. Some power stations will continue to emit greenhouse gases, possibly for some time, but they will gradually be replaced with clean, renewable sources or ones where carbon is captured before it gets into the atmosphere. It's easier to have clean centralised electricity generation that can power cars, or ideally trains & trams, and reduce, ideally remove, the CO2 created. True, manufacturing facilities may currently be using power from "dirty generation" but that will change to cleaner sources as part of the transition and, yes, lithium mining is a problem, but battery recycling will come, probably to save supply costs. It's also naive to think that reputable companies aren't looking at issues in their supply chains related to sustainability and cleaning up lithium mining. It's not going to be quick or easy but the ramifications of not doing it aren't worth considering.
