I can't see that it is (a sensible precaution). Most of the grass is either mown or chewed low. The other foliage is neither excessively dry nor very inflammable. There is little dense tree cover. There seems to me to be little chance of an uncontrolled wildfire. One would hope that the park authorities have conducted their own risk assessment, but there is mine. Does anyone remember there ever being a big fire in Richmond Park? There are serious negative effects caused by a couple of days of very abnormal temperatures like we have just been experiencing. However, I do not believe that a big risk of a major fire in Richmond Park is one of them. Anyone want to shut the Commons? Each has areas of dense tree cover - indeed Barnes has already had a small fire.Personlly I have steered clear of RP the last couple of days - it has just been too hot to enjoy going out.
