Kew shopping outlet to maybe have 1000 flats built!

I'm just horrified - we go to M&S Kew now and then, and the thought of a thousand flats filling the car park and site is just awful. I know we need homes, but these little boxes being built everywhere is so disheartening. Bet the neighbours aren't too thrilled. And will they be affordable?

Spot on Barbara,In fact there is a walk way that connect the previous turning (Cemetery/Dump/RGA).I have to admit I have only used the M&S over the last few years, but even less since they reduced their cafe service.I've always thought that the retail park lacked somewhere to eat.

It's past Mortlake dump and entrance to the Crematorium. Keep going till you get to the traffic lights then turn right.

If you walk along the embankment path towards Kew, a very pleasant trip, you will pass a great many blocks of flats to your left, with the river on the right. Thousands of apartments. My worry about this new development is whether there will be any attempt to create a community with all that means. Local shops. Schools. Play-schools. Places for younger people to meet. Pubs. Cafe’s. Etc etc. At the moment you can walk through networks of attractive flats along quiet roads, with pleasant surroundings. But no real centre to act as a focus.Nick

Is that on, Mortlake Road opposite entrance to Beechwood Avenue? Used to be a paint factory where I had my first summer job!

What about clothes shops, I always used to drive to Kew.

If the developments go ahead, the traffic is going to be even worse than it is now.  It will be interesting to hear what the local residents think about all of this.

And where are all the services for all these new properties going to go eg schools and all those new hospitals...  It will get more and more difficult to find places for them.  Never mind as they are so important there is bound to be some land available as they are surely more important than parks and open land...

There are already plans to build homes on Barnes Hospital, the Brewery Site and now this proposed development of the retail park, this part of SW London is really going to change.
