Makes no difference to me Matt. It doesn't matter who the 2 final candidates are I will be spoiling my ballot paper. In my opinion the Conservatives have stupidly tossed out the best person to win them the next GE.

Ed, I agree PR would be a fairer and more democratic system: I believe the UK is the only European country without PR other than Belorussia? However, remember that the UK electorate rejected the option of the Alternative Vote system in the 2011 referendum? So given that the Conservative and Labour parties aren't currently supporting moving to a PR voting system it looks like we're stuck with FPTP for the foreseeable future. We need to be realistic and work with what we have; so is it tactical voting?

I think you might have to accept it Sue, there's no doubt he was very popular at the start and i dont think there's much doubt he was deeply unpopular at the end.If you don't believe multiple polls, what about by-election results?

Boris still has a lot of support amongst Tory voters and there will be a backlash against the Conservatives over this. It has started already.  I, for one, will not vote for them again.

I guess this is a good lesson. If you occupy a position which you're elected into by your colleagues then it's a good idea not to stitch them up. Sending them out to support you with stories that subsequently turn out to be untrue won't endear them to you. Hardly surprising when they turn on you? A key issue with being leader is trust. Johnson obviously destroyed that, as indicated by Javid's resignation speech.Johnson forgot he wasn't a president directly elected by the public or a dictator where he could erase his opponects, he lead a team with collective responsibility that had to trust him to maintain his position.

You can think that every time an election comes round. You will find that in fact you have several other parties to choose from beyond the largest two, not just the jokes like the BNP, UKIP and Monster Ravers, but also serious parties including the ones you mention.The UK system of first past the post has the effect that small splinter groups coalesce into larger ones in order to achieve the momentum necessary to win. A FPTP system is almost bound to become dominated by 2 parties - as ours has.Thus if you are searching for better ideas, the one you should start with is Proportional Representation.

Why, or why, should a gigantic problem with the conservative government have a reply: "But, for Labour, the going may be harder."It is beyond ridiculous!!Perhaps it is time people started thinking that the British politics should be a lot wider that the traditional conservative vs labour.Neither party have the magical wand or magic answers.  it is time we thought that other parties may have much better answers.

Hello Sue,I do not agree that Johnson was hounded out in the slightest.  He really has destroyed politics in the UK.  Everything that past generations built up, Johnson and co have really destroyed with no mercy - perhaps at the request of certain donors?The loss of integrity and honesty at the highest political office is to be despised in the strongest possible terms.Did he get Brexit done?  I am sorry to say, he started it and then it went into a limbo.Just as he did with the Oxford Union and everything that followed, mediocrity always stayed with him - I grant you, he is a smooth if not callous operator, but of the worst kind.I do agree with Heseltine and Major that BoJo should not stay in office for much longer.No, I do not like BoJo one bit, and you know that, but recent times have demonstrated my hate was not unfounded.In a funny way, I wish Theresa May could come back, bring some common sense back (even if in a subdued manner), and really rub BoJo the wrong way up because this is what he did to her - together with Gove and others.To think that BoJo is synonymous to the  conservative doctrine is like saying that Putin is synonymous to kindness.

Dan Wootton! What utter bollox this man writes. Only the Mail could carry it.The fact is that Johnson was not fit to be PM in the first place. His former boss Max Hastings said this years ago. As Johnson's former employer he should know. The philandering, the expense fiddling, the lying, the law-breaking.What the Tory Party will come to regret is ever getting behind Johnson in the first place. Slowly, then at an ever quickening pace, the parliamentary Conservative party began to realise that Johnson wasn't up to the job. Now even Johnson himself has finally accepted this.There are people like Wootton still too thick for it to sink in.

The Conservatives have two years to pull things back. If a new PM comes with policies that can put the economy back on track then Labour are stuffed.Johnson was Labour's best chance of winning. With no policies and very little good will left in the press i can't see Starmer pulling anything off unless it is another empty PowerPoint with a few slogans!The best Labour can hope for is the Durham police and some PCN's. Even then the Conservatives have the advantages of being in government.
