Dear Sadiq wants everyone , irespective of any identity proof, to be given free NHS treatment  Hope we have enough doctors to attend to their needs  I have no quarrel regarding emergency care.

I expect there will be more of those illnesses of Victorian times occurring with the poverty that is now increasing.  Violent and gang crimes are often connected with the drugs trade and 'soft' drugs often lead on to hard drugs.  So no surprise that a visit to the US has been in Sadiq Khan's diary.There may be something to learn apart from the fact that we're exceptionally lucky we don't all have the right to carry a gun!

One thing I forgot to add. We do still have a reciprocal health agreement with the EU. I have a GHIC Card I can use to get assistance in the EU, similarly EU citizens still have EHIC cards that they can use in the UK.

David,Interesting that Rwanda is included in your list of the countries you list. If we deport refugees to Rwanda, they will need visas before they return, but no visa as they are sent unwillingly 4,000 miles away. So if one of these "no proof of identity" people were carrying an infectious disease, acquired here (it does happen you know), the NHS should refuse to treat them? Or knocked down and lying bleeding blocking the road, should just be left there? Not so bright that.

Don't swim in the Thames, as the germs can go down the drains. I only hope the people who have these germs don't work in cafe's or hospitals as this will really spread. Hope they isolate these family members. Lets hope Rabies doesn't return. So you have had Covid, Monkeypox, Polio. What's next. Richard has a lycra rash.

It is the Tory Govt who are making Sadiq Khan raise fares and expecting TfL to pay for the repair of historic bridges whilst at the same time reducing funding.I bet other capital cities don't have all the same political restraints!

Sue. I don't think it's disingenuous to show there is no mass migration to the UK, which was my understanding your post. If one turns up as an emergency at hospital I believe one will get treatment. If it's not an emergency my understanding is you won't. GPs now check one's validity for NHS care and you need a GP to refer your to hospital for non emergency treatment. If you're a tourist from abroad you'd need to go to a doctor or clinic on a private basis (a friend from the US who was recently Inthe UK had to do that). I guess if you've got a work visa to be in the UK one would need to have health insurance fom your employer, but I'm not up to speed on that.If you're an immigrant who has come here legitimately you can usually claim benefits if you've no resources, and if you've come through an unofficial then I guess you'd have no financial resources I guess wherever you're detained would make health provision, but I don't thing it's time hat easy to get treatment if you're not a UK resident.Of course, whatever one's status it's in the good of public health to treat anyone with an infectious disease irrespective of whether hey can pay or not!

Don't have to try hard to be outraged by Khan.  Is he supposed to support London/ers?  Complete antithisis of Ken Livingstone, who for all all his faults, did much good for the ordinary Londoner  His influence on transport, introducing bus passes was the opposite to Khan who raises fares at every oppotunity. His support for many groups that had difficulties in being heard was exemplary  And he didn't go swanning off to USA investigating cannabis and leaving violent crime here in London to flourish.Yes.  I am very outraged by his attitude to Londoners  A very mean spirited person

You are being disingenuous Michael.  You know as well as I do that anybody who is in this country, whether legally or otherwise, can rock up at any hospital and they will receive free medical treatment. The cost involved will hardly ever be recouped. Anyone here on a visa should have appropriate health insurance just as tourists do.

No, Sue, it has nothing to do with the EU and open borders.  Remind me, but did the UK not leave the EU about 2 years ago?  Also, apparently the virus came from Nigeria which, although it is in the Commonwealth, it certainly is not in the EU.I think it is time we stopped blaming everything, most conveniently, to the EU.

I thought outside of Europe and North American countries (which we have reciprocal arrangements with) even tourists need a visa to enter the UK, and anyone will need an appropriate visa to work and study in the UK except Irish nationals.

I was listening to Dr Chris Smith on LBC yesterday and again today and although he was not alarmed at this point he did stress the importance of this and urged everybody to make sure they and their children had been fully vaccinated.  Nigeria was mentioned as being a likely source of this strain of the virus.

The BBC report states "Scientists believe the virus originated from someone who was immunised abroad with the live oral polio vaccine, which hasn't been used in the UK since 2004." Polio was eradicated in the U.K. almost 20 years ago but the virus has been detected in some London sewers. Perhaps we wouldn't have so many new infections in the UK if it wasn't for keep letting everybody in to the UK. When I went for a blood test, there was a young woman and an elderly lady in a wheel chair had gone in to have blood taken they couldn't understand English and should have been having an XRay. Don't know if anybody else saw a man sitting by the crossing by Lidl yesterday he had a sign saying, European Union not paying for his accommodation anymore, so he was begging. Most people who have worked for years have so much money taken from them from the Government over the years, I'm still taxed on my Pension. Why should people coming here not be made to pay, People have to have insurance if they go abroad. Everybody else comes here for nothing and we pay for it. Not on.

Instead of immediately reaching for the outrage button, why not look at this in context. It's specifically aimed at the awful "very hostile environment" racket, and to avoid another Windrush scandal - which, BTW, continues as the Home Office drags its feet, operating the compensation scheme at glacial pace.

We could start by giving anyone born here UK citizenship.Unlike Germany or the USA citizenship being born in the UK does not guarantee citizenship.Most people I'm sure would find that reasonable or surprised it is not already the case.
