Cognitive dissonance?

"Ukraine war: British troops must prepare to fight in Europe once again, says new head of Army""There is now a burning imperative to forge an Army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle.We are the generation that must prepare the Army to fight in Europe once again."And in the  same article:-"The Government set out plans last year to reduce the size of the regular Army, lowering the target size from 82,000 personnel to 72,500 by 2025.When the announcement was made in March 2021, the Army had around 76,500 regular soldiers."(Sky News today)Are we serious?

What did John McEnroe used to shout? "You cannot be serious!"I suppose this comes after that horrible Russian man Sergey Lavrov said that Russia invaded Ukraine to let the West that Ukraine must not join NATO? (Or words to that effect)While I would like to think that was a silly bait, sadly I have a feeling that the current war will escalate - hopefully not much.I remember the announcement and I remember hearing people screaming at the ridiculous idea of the EU joining armies... because of costs.  The UK has the aircraft carrier that supposedly was to be populated with French aircraft....  Now, we have an aircraft carrier and cannot afford to maintain the three aircraft we have....Are we serious?  I would use a different phrase.....
