Mr Carter'But you've stumbled across the true genius, the Catch 22 of UK asylum policy: unofficial entry is forbidden and you have to use official channels - but there aren't any official channels!'I read this but could not find what you have written. But loved this bit - 'Wherever possible, we prefer to describe someone as a person seeking asylum as we feel that the term asylum seeker is dehumanising'.Very interesting but so what.It does not address the nub of the issue which is how many arrivals by boat are 'person(s) seeking asylum' and how many are economic migrants. I always imagined an asylum seeker to be someone wishing to escape his/her country for fear or persecution or physical harm.Such a person would then rightly take any steps possible to get out.One might well think that then they would try to take up residence in the first country they pass into where they feel safe.Or, in such a country they would then apply for residency in the UK.Though why they would want to come to the imperialist country with a cruel Johnsonian government that you continually criticise escapes me.However in total, a population the size of a large town – at least 49,156 people – have been detected coming illegally by boat since 1 January 2018.And at least 10,022 people have crossed illegally in around 305 boats since the start of 2022. The number of people reported crossing is 2.2 times the 4,482 reported for the same period in 2021.These are people trying to better themselves.Fair dos.But how many of the possible billions of others in the world do you think the UK could or should accommodate ?Do you believe we should have a total open-border immigration policy ?
