Positivity thread

There are a lot of moaners on here. Just a thought for everyone to post the things (big and small) that they enjoy in Putney. I'll start. I've been enjoying the weather by taking my dog for long walks in Putney Heath, Richmond Park (I know not Putney but near enough) and running along the river which is spectacular especially in the summer. Please may I encourage you to write a note here and hopefully we can read each others positive words to remind us of what a lovely place we live in. No politics please.

Having a Spitfire fly past your garden of an afternoon like today is a pretty positive thing. As is sharing Her Majesty’s full blown flypast on special occasions.

Alexander, when I sit at the end of the garden, a few fly down into the bird bath and splash about, they then fly over my head back into the bush. They give me a little splash of water, they might be saying thank you. Or sit somewhere else.

Sparrows, I have hundreds in a bush at the end of my garden. The bush gets orange and red berries. The sparrows have been there for a few years. I must have everybody else's.

I've noticed that the sparrow population seems to have recovered. Walking near Woodland Way and that end of Fawe Park road is a pleasure with big hedges full of rowdy birds.

Today on a rare day off work I took the car and made a short drive to the Wimbledon windmill.  A long dog walk through Wimbledon common and Putney heath- an incredible large green space which is almost like being in the countryside.

I have lived in West Putney for some years now and have always enjoyed the river walks, Wimbledon, Barnes and Putney commons and great transport options. The swifts came back to West Putney on 10th May and on the Roehampton Golf course along with all the geese Canadian, Egyptian, Gray Lag I spotted a red Kite last week. A very green and nature friendly West London with some very good local pubs The Telegraph, The Bricklayers and the Jolly Gardeners. What could one want more?

Lovely thread - I would say 'all of the above' plus little things, like the beautiful green wall on the right going down Putney Hill, and friendly people, including Issa and his team at Putney Pantry, and Pepe at Pata Negra, and the folk volunteering at the Repair Cafe at St Mary's Church.

Yes, the Putney Debates (the original ones) are a really significant feature: it was here in St Mary's that early ides of universal suffrage (well, excluding women, but it was 400 years ago after all) were propagated, with that inspirational quote from Thomas Rainsborough (part of it is engraved in the arch in the church):"The poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he … I think it’s clear, that every man that is to live under a government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that government; and I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under."

Lots of interesting talks arranged by the Putney Society, at the Library, the Putney Music Society and, several years ago, the Putney Debates at St Mary's (no, not the original ones!); but too little time for them all with other interests ...

Love the library, went today to collect the Dishoom cookbook for my son and I to cook together.I love Blabar for their cinammon bunsTomorrow will be a sunny day so a walk from West Putney to Bishops park to play with my camera I think.

Lots of cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants for a variety of tastes to meet friends. Close proximity facilities such as the wetlands centre, Bishop's Palace/Park,  plus local green places such as Wandsworth Park as well as the larger ones already mentioned.

The excellent transport links (Rail, Tube and buses), the proximity of Richmond Park, the river and Putney Common, and a really good library - just for starters.
