App. 700 % increase in annual Residents Parking Permits for second cars in one household
If you have and/ or had a second car in one household and pay for the privilege to park these in front of your door, it used to cost nothing. We started initially paying for permits with £ 20.50 per car.Wandsworth Council – without having consulted any of its residents on this issue over the years – nowadays charge us roughly 700 % more, since the start whilst claiming to be one of the cheapest Councils within greater London. That applies for some claims, however the increase and the total amount for permits was, despite the fact, that these latest fees were agreed by WBC’s Transport Committee last year are at least in my eyes reached in a rather undemocratic way. Our household has 2 small vehicles which fall into the under 80 mg CO2 low carbon output category. The space they use is about the same as 1 ½ SUV. SUV’s average CO2 output is generally above 200 mg! It all doesn’t add up. WBC claims that the income from those exorbitant charges (much higher than in neighbouring councils) is channelled into other traffic costs:Well – it isn’t into pot hole repair in SW15.
