Circus posters

Could readers please support me by removing circus flyposting on PHS and surrounding streets. I have removed about 30 or so, but URR needs doing I havnt looked on LRR. They are also all down Fulham Road up to Wandsworth Bridge Road. All over Kings Arms on other side of bridge. We are trying to get businesses back.. Just wish the Putney Bid did something more than just taking money off businesses.. Have done some street cleaning outside Lydl but poor result, still very stained, maybe because stains become embedded when left 6 months or more

It's a Fun Fair, not a Circus. They appear to have it not on the centre triangle as usual, but on the large bit of the common by the old Putney Hospital. This where the Putney Weekend used to be held, those who have lived here a long time will remember. Used enjoy the Putney weekend

Removed another tranch of posters from bridge down to old Trespass site on PHS  earlier,and large corex boards blocking peninsula sightline bottom of Putney bridge, spotted by the man who had just put them up in Subway, tall white guy, 30 bearded, rather red in the face,seeing me, I beat a  retreat and reported to Met Pol, and Cllr John Locker, also confronted on pavement by Boots dreadlocked employee who came out on to pavement, saying the posters attract business to PHS, I disagree, any thoughts?

In fact it is a fun fair on Putney Lower Common and not a circus. They have the permission of the Conservators (WPCC) and pay a fee to use the Common. This is a tradition going back many years. There do seem to be a lot of fly posters this year, including some on boards tied to lamp posts, including two at the top of Commondale. Going by bus to Hammersmith yesterday I noticed they spread along as far as Charing Cross Hospital. The Fun Fair is here until the 15th of May.Nick

I have missed any results with regard to the latest street cleaning although I walk past Lydl every day. The difficulty is that power washing/steam cleaning is as you point out infrequent. In  any case, how the Putney Bid is spent needs reviewing in terms of what Positively Putney does and how this do benefits Putney residents.

I think that a few of the brightly coloured circus posters look fine when they first go up but as you say when they get tatty and the event has event it's a different story.  I wouldn't mind so much if they showed some effort to remove them after the event. Same with the XE graffiti posters that often appear on the footbridge - bad enough to begin with but when they have a few rips even worse than the circus ones I think.

I am not adversely affected by them but I agree with you Penelope. Posters randomly stuck anywhere and everywhere look unsightly, and even worse when they've degenerated in the rain and become tatty.  I would bet that the people who put them up never remove them after the event and the clean-up is left to people like you who take pride in where they live.  Circuses that use and exploit animals should not be allowed anyway in my opinion.

Yes, I am referring to posters on empty shops, meter boxes BT boxes, walls between shops, and abandoned premises

Penelope, If the posters are on shops that are open, you might find they do ask the shop manager if the poster can be put there and the shop is given some free tickets to the Circus. The circus is on Putney common down by the old Hospital.
