Barnes Hospital Development

I am really saddened to see the article on the front page of PutneySW15 regarding the redevelopment of Barnes Hospital.  Barnes Hospital provided care for older people with mental health problems.  Anyone know where they are treated now?  Perhaps Richmond Council could tell us?   The development is inappropriate on this site because access down the narrow street along side the railway is just not sufficient for a development of this size.  It’s going to create terrible traffic problems.
Why can’t they just leave it as a hospital for older people, it is a lovely site.  I think the LibDems of Richmond Council are heartless to do this.

David, thank you for this info.  I am glad health services will still be provided there.  Hopefully older people with mental health problems will still be treated on the site. My opinion remains the same however, on traffic.  I don’t think that neighbourhood can cope with more vehicles and this will effect URR and LRR.

My understanding was that only half of the Barnes Hospital site has been sold for development and health services will continue to be provided there with the possibility that an SEN school will be built.

In other countries where public transport is subsidised more to make it a more popular option a better service can be run and there isn't such a lot of private transport clogging up the roads.

I don’t think there will be a lot less traffic in this part of Sheen & Mortlake.  They are proposing 2 large residential developments, one either side of the railway line.  Upper Richmond & Lower Richmond Rds are going to get even busier.

Lots less traffic makes for a much better environment!  Unfortunately there are a lot of homes now being used as B&B type holiday lets at much higher prices and longer term renters are being turfed out when they make any complaint at all.  Energy Performance Certificates are out of date with the present situation of moving from gas.  If you rent out or sell I understand you now have to produce one of these.https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/housing/renting-privately/during-your-tenancy/if-you-get-a-section-21-notice/

Wasn't Easter lovely with lots traffic because so many were on holiday? What is needed is a political party that is against development. IIRC even the green party were touting building more homes in London due the last mayor election. There is no lack of housing in the UK. There is a distribution problem geographically and about ownership.

I’ve had a leaflet through my letterbox from Thamesfield LibDems.  One of their issues is “Cleaner Air for All”, yet next door in LibDem Richmond there are 2 proposals that will bring traffic gridlock and traffic idling to North Sheen and Mortlake, ie the brewery site and Barnes Hospital developments.  What do the Thamesfield LibDems think about what’s happening in LibDem Richmond?  It is going to make traffic worse in Putney, in my opinion.
