New sky-high prices at Wetherspoons  The Rocket

What a difference a day makes - yesterday a Mixed Grill with a pint of San Miguel cost £10.29, today it is £12.70.As Tim Martin  is a great Brexit fan we cannot blame Brexit.( All other prices seem to have huge markups also. What is going on?

The Rocket and a few other select pubs in the chain used to have a better selection of wine. Sadly this nolonger seems to be the case.The wine is still good value and it does tend to be branded.

I remember going into a 'spoons several  years ago with a fellow delegate after a BAA conference in Maccalsfield and ordering two pints of Ruddles. When the barmaid said the price (can"t remember what it was now)  I replied with "no, it was two pints"; my fellow delegate, who lived nearby, responded "that is for two, yer not in London now lad" :-)Still, prices in the Rocket seem reasonable compared to other local watering holes?

Location location location.Even so it's probably still cheaper than anywhere else in the area

You can still go to other Wetherspoons across London and get a pint of Ruddles for 99p.San Miguel in Tooting Wetherspoons is 3.33 a lot cheaper. If you can be bothered to travel. Not all the Wetherspoons charge same prices. Rocket is the most expensive one I’ve been to aside from Airports.

Yes prices have gone up 2 years of ridiculous lockdowns for what?The problem is all the other pubs are too expensive not that the Weatherspoon's prices have risen

Fair enough, Ed, but then people shouldn't complain about rising prices? Plus, if I remember correctly, Tim Martin was complaining about the problems of recruiting staff ...

With or without Brexit - many bar staff were underpaid IMO.Bar staff pay is not a Brexit issue. EU membership just allowed employers to underpay staff. It's the same with transport and lorry drivers.Just get over it the reality is that we have been underpaying staff!

Although I may disagree with Mr Martin on a number of political points I'd admit he has a good business model. It may be basic but it's consistent, the beer's usually well kept (for those who like real ales) and it's inexpensive - good value for market he's aiming for. I'm not sure he can be held responsible for inflation, particularly that related to fuel costs, although perhaps the shortage of European bar staff is a result of both the pandemic (when they returned to the EU) and Brexit (when they decided not to return to the UK)?

I was in that pub a few nights ago, it's still very reasonably priced in comparison to other pubs in Putney. I bought two pints last night in the spotted horse and it was 12.50!

£12.70 for a pint and a meal at a river side location is still very cheap.There are many reasons to knock Brexit but this is not one of them.
