BT slow VoIP rollout

I know there was a discussion a while ago about people having their phones swapped to VoIP. Looks like BT are pausing that while they work out some further details for dealing with power cuts, etc:https://newsroom.bt.com/were-pausing-our-digital-voice-plans-for-consumers-while-we-work-on-a-more-resilient-rollout/They still seem to be looking to complete the transfer to VoIP by 2025 so let's hope it doesn't slow the transfer of broadband to fibre to the premises too much.

Interesting that the government disclaim any responsibility for VoIP. BT Openreach has quite detailed plans for the copper to fibre conversion,  although I'm sure they're using subcontractors for a lot of it:https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2022/01/openreach-name-98-new-uk-areas-for-copper-phone-to-fibre-switch-tranche-7.htmlBT Openreach don't sell directly to retail customers but to ISPs including BT retail who do.Yes, Virgin have a separate fibre to the premises network, which I believe uses a different standard to BT's FTTP, but Virgin also resell BT Openreach broadband in areas where they don't have fibre cable coverage.  Yes, and there are a number of other smaller companies such as CityLink rolling out FTTP to consumers.

BT isn’t directly constructing the FTTP. If Virgin Media was, sure, but not BT. They’ve passed that responsibility to a contractor and they’re the customer. Another company similar but not the same is CityFibre operating in the M4 Corridor. They will own the fibre optic network, but they don’t directly sell to customers, unlike Virgin Media and BT, but the latter doesn’t actually have work gangs digging up the road.

BT need to know which of their customers it will be a problem for which it seems at present they don't.  Esther Rantzen was on the radio the other day talking about it.
