Yes, Galileo along with Copernicus, Brahe, Kepler and Newton made great strides in the 16-17th centuries contributing to our understanding of the solar system and the physics of motion given their limited instruments and the resistance to change by the church in Rome.Also, I know that historically astronomy and astrology have common roots in the study of objects in the night sky but I'd be wary of mentioning them together in the company of today's astronomer's; I'm told by someone who knew him and witnessed it that at a social event Sir Patrick Moore was offended when some celeb, I assume with no science background, asked him how his astrology was going :-( [Unfortunately my friend didn't know who the celeb was, or chose not to remember!]
