Dryburgh Road “Barrier” - what about residents?

Living in the A5 parking zone, the inability to cross from Dryburgh Road onto Upper Richmond road (and the other way around) makes it very painful to do school run in the morning during rush hour. The only option really is to go through Gipsy Lane. This is fine when leaving A5 but on the way back the heavy traffic hits you, queuing at the commons for 20+ minutes, mixing with people going to Putney Bridge.Would the council consider an exception for entry from/to Dryburgh Road for residents only if enough people were in favour?Would that be something that people here are interested in?

There was some initiative a while to make sign clearer. I'm not sure what happened to itThe cameras create revenue and it may not be in the best interests of those collecting it to improve the road signs -  or the management of our roads is so chaotic that it is nolonger possible to do so. Perhaps both are true.With many main routes being 20mph it becomes less clear why some roads are restricted especially if they are in the ULEZ area which we are told is excludes exhaust fumes :(Must have imagined the health warning the last couple of days. The second this year.The gap between what signs say and behaviour has increased over time. My wish that they should enforce or remove restrictions before applying more.

Ed - yes I see the signs today.  I was looking back on Google streetview to when the physical barrier was still there to see if the signs has 'except bicycles'.  They didn't, which surprised me!

Hi Alan,There are no left/right turn signs in both directions but very far from Dryburgh Road. The one East bound is before the speed camera and has it's own post. I've no idea why they have placed it so far away. The other one is opposite the bus shelter.Motorcycles seem to be exempt from the Clarendon Road barrier. There is no except motorcycles but no one seems to get stopped.

It is odd isn't it?  The old physical barrier had a gap in the middle that seemed designed to allow bicycles through. But the road signs from the east and north did not have a bicycle exemption when the physical barrier was there.  There wasn't a sign on the westbound approach in the oldest streetview capture.

I should just like to mention that the ban on entry to Dryburgh Road also applies to bicycles. There is no exception on the signs.Of course cyclists can dismount and enter the road legally on foot via the pavement.Perhaps Oliver is a law abiding cyclist :)

For the reasons Alan states, i doubt this would be acceptable to A5 residents whose children go to the local schools.‘but on the way back the heavy traffic hits you, queuing at the commons for 20+ minutes, mixing with people going to …’It always amazes me that these people queuing for 20+ minutes etc don’t seem to take on board that they are part of the problem.

Most people living in the A5 zone would go to the 5 local primary schools though.  Or secondary children are expected to make their own way by public transport. So your suggestion won't get far.  The restriction was originally to stop rat running cars causing danger to children on their way to All Saints primary and the other 3 primary schools closer to the town centre.  I always thought it odd though that the restrictions wasn't north of the leisure centre.  Currently anyone driving to the Leisure centre cannot get there from the closest main road.
