I saw bits of the interview with Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her husband, and I thought she looked relaxed, composed and very coherent given her experiences over the last six years. One can't blame her for feeling aggrieved as she obviously feels she was used as a pawn in the politics of UK/Iranian politics, and Johnson's idiotic statement when he was Foreign Secretary didn't assist her case; it was being used by an Iranian spokesperson the day she was released to spin the "fact" that some believed her to be working against the Iranian government, although obviously the real issue was the money the UK owed the Iranians. It's difficult to assess how much Ms Truss contributed: was she just lucky the Iranian had a change of government, was it the work of some unknown civil servant, or did she pull something out of the hat? We're unlikely to know for several decades. Her husband obviously contributed significantly by not letting her plight drop out of the news and their local MP seems to have been very supportive as well. I'm not sure we should compare their relationship to others, they're married, have a child and there seems to have been regular contact between Richard Radcliffe and his Iranian in-laws during her period of incarceration if I've understood things correctly. I'm sure they'll discuss their different perceptions of what happened and hopefully resolve any differences. I suspect the best thing is to wish them well as a family and leave them in peace to adjust to their latest circumstances.
