Be extra careful at cashpoints here currently: there's a man who uses distraction methods to grab bank cards from the unwary.

HSBC on URR (eastern end, opposite surgery) was hit a couple of months ago. The outside ATM is particularly vulnerable. Card snatched and used for several hundred pounds of purchases within 10 minutes. Culprit never traced.

The one I know about is the Sainsbury Local cashpoint in the Lower Richmond Road, but I imagine the thief will vary his targets.

Any particular bank? They used to target Barclays a lot, but just keep your hands on the card slot, no matter what!

I used one within a bank recently to deposit a couple of cheques. I do carry a small amount of cash as every so often one encounters somewhere that only takes cash - such as the drinks being sold at a recent Putney Society meeting :-)

I don't think i've used one in well over a year now, probably heading towards two! I just use my phone for all payments.

Good warning but it must be slim pickings these days for these lowlifes. Haven’t used a cashpoint for over a month or two and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Thanks, Richard. Yes, best to use ATMs located in banks if one can, or use cashless payments?

Yes, I used the Nationwide, now can't as shut. Yes I had a young man years ago came behind me in the High Street trying to ask for money, as I was getting cash out he didn't expect my get the F away from me rather loudly and soon moved.

How horrible!I tend to go into the bank to get cash. I used to trust the hole in the wall but I now think being in the bank or a post office is safer...
