Chelverton Road Petition.

There is a petition to stop vehicles coming from the URR into Charlewood Rd, from 7 - 10 in the morning, or permanently. The only problem here is if you are coming home and wanting to drive into Chelverton Road, you will be caught up on the URR at the top of the High Street, trying to turn left to go down Norroy Rd. Also  all other Vehicles Ambulances, Delivery Vans, Fire Engines, Dustmen, will have to do the same journey the long way round down Norroy Rd. The reason there had been hold ups in Chelverton Rd was because TFL changed the rotation of the Traffic lights, High St end of Chelverton, the lights were only letting a couple of vehicles out at a time. I spoke to the staff at the bus garage.

Karl, if you google, is there a book on Putney when houses were built. It shows you some books on there.

Karl, if you start a new thread, there are some intelligent people on here who know a lot about Putney.  The houses used to continue on both sides till the war. That is why there is a gap and the Chelverton Court was built.  Think you'll find Chelverton Rd have different carvings on each house, the other half thinks they would have been made in a mold.

Forgive me for hijacking the post but as it has slipped down the page it will hopefully be excused. I wondered if there was a story behind the carvings (not sure of any technical term) on the front of each of the Chelverton Road houses? Most of them seem to be Kings or perhaps other royal association. Is there a story behind them or are they merely decorative? Is there a book of the streets in Putney detailing when they were built and buildings of particular interest (eg a very unusual looking house on Disraeli Rd).

There are several issues one being the lights on URR & PHS. Some cars are going via Chelverton Rd to turn left on the high street. The lights only let a couple of cars at a time but that can be more than the URR lights. Cars and even buses block the junction box which means those turning left miss their go.The other issue is the school run where Wandsworth Council choose not to enforce the parking rules.We seem to also have drifted into the situation where bus stops have become spaces for buses to park.We really need an independent body with powers concerned with keeping traffic flowing. TFL has no appetite to do so not the Mayor.

I've walked along Chelverton Rd at peak times at have been amazed at the queueing traffic. At first I assumed there had been both a diversion from URR and also a bump by the bus garage and was surprised to discover there was neither. Dread to think how long it takes to get into the HS from the far end of Chelverton when it's queueing like that. Awful for residents. #Istandwithchelverton

Also as we came back from Sheen today, URR end of Charlewood Rd, one side of the post has 30 mph then the other side has 20 mph.

Norroy Road have received the Council letter too - three options1. Ban turning left during peak hours Mon - Fir, 7-10am OR AT ALL TIMES from Upper Richmond Rd into Charlwood, except for cycle access2. Closure of bridge during morning peak hours, Mon - Fri, OR at all times on Charlwood between URR and Norroy, except for cycle access (This is a crazy option, as emergency vehicles have to have access 24/73. Make no changeshttp://haveyoursay/citizenspace.com/wandsworthecs/chelverton-22Disraeli Rd residents, west of Oxford Rd, hadn't, as of yesterday, received the letter, which doesn't make sense, as, if they want to access the URR, the go down Norroy, as they can't turn left in the High St. As far as I can tell, option 1a (the restriction turning from URR from 7-10am) or make no changes are the options. Anything permanent, meaning a barrier or restriction in the road, will just push more traffic onto Chelverton, and make the route for emergency vehicles very difficult. Additionally, Norroy is supposed to be an alternate emergency route for when there are incidents on the URR. Much discussion in Norroy whatsapp etc on this subject.

I hand delivered a proposal to every home on Chelverton Road in September last year. There was a proposal to impose the no left turn restriction into Charlwood Road, and information about the petition. That is the letter I am writing about, not the one we have all received this week. If you have any concerns, I would suggest voicing them via the channels detailed in the letter from the council.

All residents on Chelverton Road received information about the petition which I personally posted (3 for your building Barbara) and your partner is on our street WhatsApp group where there is a copy of the petition and many conversations regarding the traffic issues. The traffic is  intolerable for those living here particularly in the early morning, we had around 130 signatures of those who agreed.  This system has been successfully trialled up around Rusholme Rd and Putney Park Lane, as well as roads off of Parkside. Surely any reduction in the tailbacks we have had to endure for so long would be a positive, whether people turn at Sainsburys or not, less people will use our road as a rat run. Residents can still access via Charlwood on a right turn. Our proposal was for a no left turn from URR from 7am-10am. We had no part in any other options given.

Simon, all the people have to do, is go past Charlewood Rd, turn in the small Sainsbury's and still come in to Charlewood.

The request comes from residents. The road is gridlocked most mornings with people rat running from URR to the high street. It has nothing to do with traffic light phasing which was fixed.  The issue is about noise (idling cars), and  pollution - stationary but idling cars, plus it can take 20 mins for residents to get out of their own road. A no left turn from URR will impact residents too but it’s a small price to reduce the regular occure fe of drivers beeping horns because they are cross about being stuck on a small one way residential street.

I received the map and the petition this morning, it must have been for our road and surrounding roads to sign. Only problem you have is also Charlewood Rd, already has a barrier by the School. The URR will be jam packed all the time. This was from Wandsworth Council (contact Richard Nicholas) robert.nicholas@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk web www.wandworth.gov.uk  ref ECS/T@E/CHE/RN. I actually rang TFL this morning as TFL has to to give their agreement. TFL are responsible for A205 URR.  TFL are giving me a reply in 10 days. He thought it was a rather stupid idea. I think a couple in Chelverton Rd have done the petition, but I don't think it has been thought through properly.

Yes indeed, where is the petition and who is behind it? The suggested move would be a nightmare for scores of drivers. We need to know from where this idea has arisen. Any suggestions?

That is annoying to say the least!Where is the petition?I am not in favour of closing off a road, or roads, permanently.  Residents need to get to their homes, etc.  ANPR cameras could be the answer but TFL is not very keen to roll them out, unless it is for their own interest.....
